Product Description

The story of 22-year-old Calgary-born twins Tegan and Sara has always been slightly more interesting than their fiercely untamed folk-punk. Sure, they channel the spirit of early Ani DiFranco and they caught the ear of both major labels and musical genius-savant Hawksley Workman, who added negligible production sheen to their debut disc, 2000's careening and slightly tentative This Business of Art. Still, seeing the girls has always been way more fun than actually hearing them. It's a point Tegan and Sara seem to address on their second disc, If It Was You, in more ways than one. For a start, the faces staring out from the cover are glam, glam, glam--not exactly M.A.C. gone amok but a startling departure from their former tomboy look. Within, the disc makes a bold play for pure-pop crossover. Several tracks, such as the chiming "Monday Monday Monday" and "Not Tonight" would be unthinkable at a folk festival while "Living Room," with its supple banjo and booming multivoice chorus, is more Dixie Chicks than Chixdiggit. Credit producers John Collins and Dave Carswell, who have served with lush Vancouver pop combo the New Pornographers. This is vocally driven, folksy pop-rock and all the better for it. --Kim Hughes

5.0 out of 5 stars Teagn and Sara are a breath of fresh air!, Jun 29 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: If It Was You (Audio CD)
I bought this cd wondering if I really would like it that much. I am always interested in hearing something new so Tegan and Sara intrigued me. What a pleasant surprise it was to find out that they are awesome. I found myself within the first week of my purchase, listening to the cd everywhere, at home, at work, and in the car. My favorite songs are "Don't Confess", "Living Room" (the banjo was in my opinion an inspired choice of instrument in this song, it gives the song a slight rustic feel), and "Monday, Monday, Monday". So if you're intrested in folk music, and canadian chicks that rock, definitely pick up this cd!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not One Bad Song!, April 28 2004

This review is from: If It Was You (Audio CD)
Tegan and Sara have really evolved from their last album, which was more poppy. This cd is an amazing collection of moods, emototions and can therefore be listened to without skipping one track. Buy this cd, and if you don't like it everyone around you will.

5.0 out of 5 stars T & S rock!, April 27 2004
This review is from: If It Was You (Audio CD)
Tegan and Sara are rock stars. Their lyrics are awesome, their music is addictive, their voices are their own. It's a shame they're not plastered on the cover of every big music magazine out there. It's a shame their video's aren't playing on MTV every 2 minutes. It's a shame they haven't sold out...oh wait...
Here's a band that's sold a ton of records not because their faces are everywhere on magazines and television, but because their music is unlike anything you've ever heard before. They're a group unlike any other and they rock. They're just about the music. They kick @$$ and you're missing out on something great if you haven't added them to your cd collection yet.
