Josh, get back with David Foster PRONTO!!,
By
This review is from: Illuminations (Audio CD)
I cannot tell you how disappointed I was in this much-anticipated CD. First of all, it must be acknowledged that being a good singer does NOT NECESSARILY make one a good song-writer. Josh should stick to singing songs that other, more talented songwriters write for his superb voice. This CD is lacking the standard fare that has made Josh Groban a household name and a much-beloved vocalist: GOOD SONGS WITH BEAUTIFUL MELODIES. Not all of the songs are bland and forgettable, but most of them are. Josh and David Foster had a really terrific thing going, by picking passionately melodic songs that really showed off Josh's voice beautifully. Unfortunately there are few memorable moments on this latest CD and after listening to it several times now, I just can't find any redeeming features in it. I would recommend this CD only for true die-hard Josh Groban fans. Those looking for a better CD from a similarly talented singer should check out MARK MASRI's CD.

Different, but Good,

I found that although this CD was quite different than Josh's other work, I still quite enjoyed it. This album has more songs in English than many of his previous albums which made the songs a little more catchy and memorable to me. Overall, I really loved this CD!

Big Disappointment,

This review is from: Illuminations (Audio CD)
My family has every album Josh Groban has ever released but when we opened and listened to this one, I actually wished we hadn't spent the money on it. Obviously, Josh's departure from David Foster was not a good one. He says on the liner notes that he was finally able to do what he wanted -- if he had from the beginning, he probably wouldn't be famous right now. This was a huge disappointment - the music is almost depressing. I probably won't buy another of his albums unless he teams up with David Foster again.
