Book Description

Oct. 1 2007
In Illusive we identified the main trends in contemporary illustration and introduced many young illustrators. Since then, the demand for illustration has continued to grow - and with it the range of application and the forms of expression in this medium. This positive development is confirmed by the exciting work of international illustrators that we have seen since publishing Illusive; it was thus a logical step to present the best of these new works in Illusive 2.

Illusive 2 is a survey of current illustration from around the world; unlike other titles on this subject, all of the work was selected for inclusion based solely on its artistic merit. The book reveals a trend toward Neo-Realism that is demonstrated by the willingness of today's magazines to use illustration in almost the same way as photography. In general, the illustrations featured in Illusive 2 have become more differentiated and complex - the spontaneous-looking scribbles of years past have given way to elaborate, multi-layered collages. The variety of styles and new design approaches is impressive.

Illusive 2 includes a broad range of illustrations including personal artistic work, fashion illustration and commercial projects, revealing a diversity that shows how this design discipline functions independently of fickle fashion trends. At the same time, the book outlines current developments and the many design approaches that coexist today. Because it is hard to keep an overview amid such a wealth of material, texts and interviews with leading design agencies provide context and give surprising insights into techniques, methods and motivations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great art on top quality paper Dec 21 2009

Length: 0:24 Mins
The first book I bought of the Illusive contemporary art series is actually Illusive: Contemporary Illustration Part 3. I was smitten by the quality of the art and the book itself and had to get the earlier books.

This is an inspiring book with a broad range of illustrations, all brilliantly reproduced on high grade art paper. There are hundreds of artists with their own unique style, creating art work mainly with traditional medium. This book is a visual treat with its beautiful illustrations.

The only text are some interviews, and at the back is the index with the artists' websites.

It's a great resource for illustrators and graphic designers. Well worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars so inspiring Aug. 6 2009

Illlusive 2 is one of the most beautiful books on illustration I have seen - it's a book that inspires, amazes and pushes you to go further with your own work. Wide variety of styles. I was happy to see 2 of my favorites, Ian Carr + Kerry Roper. If you're a collector of contemporary drawing books you need to buy this (pick up Vitamin D while you're at it too). Love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars :: Beautiful Inspiration :: Feb. 25 2008

I just hope they publish this every year. I know I'd purchase it annually.

It's similar to its previous version. Hardcover book about 300+ pages.
This isn't a "How To Illustrate" book. It's a "Get Inspired" book. As a broadcast motion graphics designer, this hits most current styles. Each page is like a different mood board to get inspiration from.

It covers collage, vector, traditional and others. And when I say current styles, I don't mean your "mom&pop" small town coupon illustrations. This hits more to the "Out of the Box" big city illustrations. Think clients that might have money and able to risk big (Nike, MTV, Toyota Hybrid, Diesel, etc.)

Awesome buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rave reviews hold up Nov. 17 2009
By Jeffrey L. - Published on Amazon.com
I bought this book based on all of the rave reviews posted here, and thankfully they hold up. Covers the whole gamut of graphic design from vector, paper, installation and collage and offers outstanding examples of creative illustration. I work at a small design studio and the other designers are always coming over to borrow the book. THAT'S how you know it was a good buy!

You'll find a wealth of artists in this hefty tome. The styles are presented are quite diverse: photo-realistic, vector graphics, text-based collages, textile and fabric patterns, it's all here.
