I am a wrap around therapist for an autistic 13 year old boy who cannot speak. He loves horses. We use this book everyday for our drills. This book has so many facts that are uncomplicated, but informative. It has beautiful pictures in it. Sometimes we just look at the pictures of horses because they are so beautiful. It covers almost every topic about horses. I have learned a lot about horses My client has learned alot through this book.

I liked this book because it had many breeds I had never heard of. Susan McBane grouped the breeds into regions of the world so you can find where the horse come from. McBane also put the breeds of the horses which were breed together to form the breed. McBane gave great information about the breed and it's highlights. If you are looking for an interesting breed you have found your book.

This book is a favorite coffee table book. It is intelligently written and well designed from a pedagogical point of view. There is an ancestry table for each breed and great pictures. It is so inexpensive, anyone with an interest in horses should own this book. It will become a household favorite.

The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Horse Breeds Aug. 29 2009
By Dorothy Deen - Published on Amazon.com
I just love this book !! I bought it for my 11 year old granddaughter who loves horses. It has pictures of horse breeds that I didn't even know existed, and they all look beautiful to me. I know she will think so too, when she receives the book for her birthday. There is general information on the evolution of the horse, its domestication, explanation of gaits, coats, colors and markings, and the nature of horse behavior, as well as the life cycle of the horse and its role around the world today. A glossary of horse terms is included. The book is well organized with the breeds being grouped according to the part of the globe where they live or where they originated. Each breed is pictured along with interesting facts and stories about the breed plus its ancestry, character and care, and general characteristics of conformation, head, color and height. Lots of information plus gorgeous pictures of more than 130 breeds - from Akhal-Teke to Westphalian. Any horse lover will enjoy this book.
