5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it, but don't lend it! April 25 2013

Format:Hardcover
This is a fantastic book. I bought it sight-unseen from Amazon, and because it was a DK book, I knew I would not be disappointed.

Compared to the recent plethora of books about the ocean, all stuffed with close-up photographs of fish scales, nudibranchs, and other colorful but ultimately boring subject matter, this book leaves them all in it's wake.

Every topic, even the smallest fact, is both interesting and educational. I doubt there is any important ocean-related fact that is not covered in this mighty tome.

Great photo's, well-written, what more can I say?

Just this - do not lend it. I did, many months ago, and still have not had it returned. I think that says it all.

I bought this book for my 12 years old son, whom has great interest of sea life since he was 3. He is a fast reader and has the characteristics of scholars - many people who met him believes he will be a marine biologist in the future. What I am trying to say is that he knows A LOT but this book is just amazing. It's a beautiful and informative book and can read for a long time. It's worth it!
