From School Library Journal
Gr 2-5--An attractive overview of the sport that adequately covers etiquette, equipment, and safety. The focus of the book, however, is to present pointers from ``the author's own tennis experience and from the official rules set forth by the United States Tennis Association.'' Some of the 20 statements are quite specific, ``Rule 12: Players have no more than 30 seconds between points...,'' while others are not rules at all, but definitions (``Rule 8: The player serving the ball is called the server. The player to whom the ball is served is called the receiver.'') Also, the term ``service boxes'' is used throughout the book without definition or a diagram. The beautiful, soft-focus watercolor illustrations are effective in clarifying some of the information. A serviceable addition for budding players or spectators.
