I purchased this over the less expensive $5 map, because I thought it was laminated. It is not laminated nor very thick. I would say it's similar to Glossy Paper and thickness is similar to a poster.Still a good map for my kids!

I purchased this for my 6 year old daughter who fights going to bed at night. I hung it by her bed so I figured while she is procrastinating sleeping, at least she can learn something! We love it! We play I-spy on it and when we read books at night and a state is mentioned, I ask her to find the state on the map. It is a niced sized, colorful map that will get years of use!
