This, the third pairing of Brit multi-instrumentalist Thornton and Egyptian percussionist Ramzy, further explores Middle Eastern dance motifs in a contemporary setting. Recording the basic tracks in the U.K., they went to Cairo and invited some of the top local musicians to collaborate. Flute, violin, ney, aud, rebala, and accordion flesh out these extended, ambient grooves in an evocative, textural tapestry aimed as much at the mind as at the feet. Reminiscent of Peter Gabriel's film scoring, Immortal Egypt has, with all its participants, enough cultural pedigree to satisfy World Music fans and sonic construction to please the headphone listener, but is probably too gentle for dance clubs, except for the most subtle sashaying. --Derek Rath

Il est vrai que ce CD n'est pas mauvais. Le style est très recherché et il y a beaucoup de remixage (non apparent toutefois). Il s'agit d'un regroupement d'artiste populaires, chacun ayant un instrument différent, jouant un "jam", le tout agrémenté de la belle sonorité de Phil Thornton, qui évoque la tranquilité et la paix, et accompagné des rythmes de Ramzy.

Le disque est agréable à écouter, certaines chansons m�me à danser. C'est un style r�veur qui se pr�te bien au voile et à la méditation. Je ne peux pas dire pourquoi ce CD ne m'a pas accroché, je ne lui trouve pas vraiment de défaut. C'est une impression générale; peut-�tre y a-t-il trop d'accordéon ou de sonorité stridente à mon go�t?

Si vous pouvez écouter les extraits musicaux, n'hésitez pas. Ils sont très représentatifs.

This is a great CD... invokes so many different and opposite feelings! Its great for any setting.... erotica... loungeing... party.... or just relaxing. Definetely one of my favorites!!!!!!

PHIL THORNTON AND HOSSAM RAMZY HAVE DONE IT AGAIN! ALL OF THE MAGICAL, SEDUCTIVE MYSTICISM OF "IMMORTAL EGYPT" IS BACK IN FULL-FORCE. TRACKS LIKE "ISIS UNVEILED," "SHIMMERS IN THE SAND" AND "THE LAND OF THE PHARAOHS" ARE THROBBINGLY HYPNOTIC AND CAPTIVATING, LURING ONE INTO ANCIENT EGYPT'S DEEPEST, DARKEST MYSTERIES WITH THEIR FLUTES, DRUMS, VOCODER AND TIBETAN SINGING BOWELS.

OTHER SONGS LIKE "THE COBRA'S DANCE" AND "DESERT RHYTHM" ARE ACTUALLY BASED ON TRADITIONAL EGYPTIAN MUSICAL SOUNDS/RYTHMS. MY GUESS IS THAT THE REST OF THE SONGS ARE AS WELL.

THE BEST THREE WORDS FOR THIS CD ARE: HYPNOTIC, EXOTIC AND VISIONARY.
