Book Description

Sep 15 2012
Richard Trench finds himself with no arms and no legs, reduced to a torso in the trunk of a car. There is a reason. It all makes sense. The point is there somewhere . . .

Imperfections elucidates the private lives of supermodels and circus freaks, sheiks and designer dominatrixes and the metamorphosis of the body chic. These are lives where the importance of vehicular mephitis-cide, a charity lobster boil for burn victims, a grilled-cheese sandwich with the face of the Virgin Mary toasted on it and a prophecy about the uncanny deaths of the voice-actors for Tigger and Piglet, can not be overlooked.

Set in the world of glittering photo shoots in exotic locations, extreme visions of beauty and raucous fashion shows, Imperfections is a genre-bending novel that sits solidly in the foggy area between fact and fiction.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Brilliant Satire Mar 4 2013
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Imperfections is a brilliant book, a clever and highly entertaining satire that challenges our perceptions of beauty. Author Bradley Somer shares Chuck Palahniuk’s penchant to write about the unthinkable and John Irving’s ability to build a cast of quirky characters who are both off-putting and loveable. This book is getting awesome reviews in Canada, and I can see why. It’s also a fabulous read for a book club, as there is much to discuss…from labiaplasty to maneuvering in airplane bathrooms (and of course, the satirical treatment of the beauty industry).

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read Nov 13 2012
Format:Paperback
Very few novels make me really think, examine my perspectives and draw me into their webs. This one did. Reading Bradley Somers Imperfections is like peeling an onion. The layers are many and need to be lifted carefully. I should have expected the ending but was very surprised. My interest was captured from the first page and my facination and curiousity were sustained throughout. Excellent, disturbing, realistic prose. Well done. This is a novel and author you will remember.

I loved ImPERFECTions by Bradley Somer! The story of Richard Trench's (miss) fortune will make you laugh, possibly tear up, and for sure think about our modern day obsessions. Richard Trench takes us from the comfort of suburbia and its latest minivan models to glamour of high fashion's most exotic locations. Imperfections is filled with some of the most colorful characters which make it a page turner leaving you wondering what is next?! In Imperfections Bradley Somer writes about North American obsession with beauty (both natural and surgically enhanced), chemically enhanced happiness, self-help and our somewhat pathological and never-ending need to be better according to someone else's standard. Imperfections has all elements of a great story and it was well written, entertaining and fun read. I highly recommend it!
