This is a great Canadian album. It's a really interesting, obscure kind of sound, but many of the songs have a real pop flare to them as well. Small Sins (also known as the Ladies and Gentlemen) is Thomas D'Arcy (the Carnations') newest project. I highly recommend their albums "Wild Mood Swings" and "Small Sins" ... the lyrics are great, and the sound is a unique blend of atmospheric electronica. I've seen this band live twice, and they're fantastic.You can find the singles off of "In Good Time" off of the Carnations' website ... have a listen. If you like them, you'll love the album. I'd only heard of The [late] Carnations from their bratty and fantastic "Scream and Yell", so what a surprise to pick this up and hear acappella harmony! But it doesn't stop there. A concept album about the stages of a relationship, set to good ol' rock and roll. They switch from sweet to bitter to thoughtful without losing their charm. The lyrics are great, and the music will stay in your head. This is a CD that will be in your CD player for a while.

I bought this after hearing a very positive review by a very suprised sounding reviewer on DNTO on CBC. Wow. Great lyrics, great music, lotsa layers. Everytime you think you have them pidgeonholed you hear something new that is wonderful or subversive or both.
