Get caught!

Life is full of fumbles and stumbles. Fraught with opportunities to make mistakes, occasions to feel guilty, and the drive to do it yourself. The pressure to be self-sufficient is high, but it isnt the life God offers.

The way of the world will direct you to try harder and work smarter so that you can take care of yourself and even make yourself successful. But the way of the cross will point toward the place where you stop striving ... stop pushing ... stop every self-initiated effort -- so that you can fall into the boundless, liberating, refreshing grace of God!

Just imagine being love-driven instead of self-propelled. Imagine abandoning your life to Jesus instead of trying to save yourself. Can you imagine exchanging your fears for that peace that passes understanding? Being relaxed and free instead of stressed-out and anxious? If you can imagine enjoying God instead of trying to repay him, then you can imagine grace.

So go ahead! Jump off the cliff of self-sufficiency. Leap out of legalism. Walk off the pier of guilt and condemnation. Thats the only way youll land in the strong arms of the Father who loves you ... the Father who catches you -- every time -- in the grip of his grace.

From Publishers Weekly

Popular writer and speaker Lucado here turns his interpretive powers on one of the most popular New Testament writings, the book of Romans, to probe the meaning of grace in Christian life. Using his own considerable storytelling powers, Lucado relates the biblical principles found in Romans to the stories of ordinary people like his father to fashion inspirational interpretations of the book of Romans for everyday life. Admitting that Romans is often difficult for Christians to read because of its focus on God's wrath and God's punishment of human sinfulness, Lucado translates and interprets the biblical texts to demonstrate that God's righteousness and justice are merely indicators of the mercy and lovingkindness inherent in God's grace. Through these readings, Lucado reminds readers of the eternal quality of God's mercy and the gentleness of his love. While Lucado's book is not a compendium of deep theological insights, his graceful style and his thorough exposition of biblical texts will grant rewards to interested readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars SUCH WONDERFUL GRACE!!! Jun 29 2006
By Heather Marshall Negahdar TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
God died for us all and by His Grace we are saved.

This is one of the best books that I've read by Mr. Lucado and is based on the book of Romans. Mr. Lucado is knowledgeable and such an excellent teacher, I try to share most of his books with my friends.

In The Grip Of Grace, he reminds us of the extent of God's love towards us. The extent that God will go to, proving his love for us. No psychologist, hypnotherapist, doctor, sweet talker can reach deep down into the pits of our souls and renew us with that sweet and wonderful gift of Grace. This gift that God so willingly offers to this suffering world as we reach out to him burdened with sin.

Thank you Mr. Lucado, this book has changed my way of thinking and it will certainly be read by lots of my friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars I've read it 3 times... May 2 2004
Format:Hardcover
...and everytime I've received a blessing from it. Each time that I read it, there was a part of the book that really helped me in the phase of life that I was going through. The first time I read it, I was a new Christian and it helped me grow. The second time I picked it up several years later I was a backslider trying to come back to the Lord and the book truly helped me get over my feelings of unworthiness because of my backslidding. I was assured that God's grace would still cover me. The third time I read it was not too long ago, my fiance and I read it through together and it really helped us get a solid foundation to our relationship. It opened the doors of communication for us for many spiritual topics - doors that have remained open since.
I recommend it for anyone who is leaning towards becoming a Christian, or to the Christian no matter what phase of life you're at. Buy it, read it, put it on the bookshelf, but never forget about it. Pick it up and read it again!

4.0 out of 5 stars Put down the rock and take My hand! April 25 2004
Format:Hardcover
I have been a Christian over thirty years; but in recent months, I have really struggled with my Christianity. Occasionally, I catch myself stacking rocks as the third brother in "The Parable of the River;" and I need a reminder of God's unfathomable love. In the Grip of Grace is that type of reminder. Emotionally gripping, Lucado's easy-flowing style guides the reader through the best and thankfully, most entertaining commentary on the book of Romans I have ever read. The introduction to the endearing Billie Jack was worth the price of the book! In the Grip of Grace is the literary equivalent of hot tea on a cold day; and I would definitely recommend it to both Christians and non-Christians.
