Both cds equally amazing,

This review is from: In Love and Death (Audio CD)
I've had this cd for a long time now and I'm still not sick of it. Maybe I'm a bit bias cause they're my favorite band (along with my chemical romance)but, I know some people are disappointed after hearing this cd compared to The Used's debut album. Yes there's a difference and yes its a bit more *commercial* but it's still an amazing piece of work. I found that some tracks on In Love and Death show a lot of simliarity to their debut, so don't lose all hope for this cd if you're a die hard fan of the old album. Give it a shot, its super catchy and it still has The Used feel to it.I figured I might as well do a track by track rating, but expect most of these to sound like..*I love this song..I really like this song..* cause every track is awesome. 1. Take It Away - I know this is a single and a song usually loses some of it appeal to me when everyone else knows it, but I can't deny the fact that this song is amazing. I can't say exactly what it is. The screaming, the guitar, the catchy chorus, the amazing verses..All of it. THe used is the best at making songs like this. Awesome awesome awesome. A fav. 10/10 2. I Caught Fire - The song is awesome and I always listen to it, it's just probably different then what you were expecting. It has nice lyrics and this song always gets stuck in my head - *You could stay and watch me fall, and of course I'd ask for help, we could take our heads off stay in bed, just make love..thats all..* 9.5/10 3. Let It Bleed - I love the beat during the verse, its easy to get into. And just over half way through the song, theres an amazing part that starts off with Bert sort of whispering/screaming "you might wanna say" and he does this laugh..and it continues to get louder and then it ends with an amazing hard drum, guitar and screaming part. It's an awesome way to mix up the song. One of my favorites 10/10 4. All That I've Got - I heard this song before I got the album and it really grew on me. I adored it, but now that it's out there and its all over the music channels it's sort of lost its spark that caught me in the first place. It used to really speak to me in a way, but you can only be so personal with a song when the rest of the world likes it too. None the less, a really good song. The chorus sounds awesome and it has some nice lyrics. "I'll be just fine, pretending I'm not" It still deserves a 9/10 5. Cut Up Angels - This song is a lot softer than the debut as well but it's still got some good qualities to it. I like how theres a piano in the background, it adds a good feel to it. At the end of the song there's a lot of energy and emotion in Bert's voice and its a really good ending to the song. 8.5/10 6. Listening - If you're a fan of the debut, you'll probably like this song. There's a lot more screaming from Bert, and its a little heavier. I really love the end "Im not listening...Im not listening"..it sounds awesome. 8.5/10 7. Yesterday's Feelings - I can't deny that I like this song..maybe it's because I loved their song on the debut On My Own. Isn't too much to say but there are some nice lines. "Those yesterdays feelings will all be lost in time..but today ive wasted away for today is on my mind." 8.5/10 8. Light With a Sharpened Edge - This song is a pretty good example of how The Used got a little bit *lighter* with their music. The used is still capable of making good music, whether it's harder with screaming or softer with sweet lyrics and singing. There's a nice guitar solo 3/4's of the way through the song. It's worth a listen. 8/10 9. Sound Effects and Over Dynamics - I love the beginning of this song with the hard start. Very awesome. The chorus is oh so good tOo. Bert's screaming..some of the best vocals out there I swear. 9.5/10 10. Hard To Say - I really like this songggggggg...its sweeeeet. It's really girly of me to say so but it is. They did an awesome job. Bert's voice sounds amazing. Soft, and so meangingful. Its beautiful. "its hard to say that i was wrong, its hard to say i miss you..since you've been gone it's not the same." 10/10 11. Lunacy Fringe - It's not upbeat, but its not mellow..sort of in thie middle. This song is so much fun to listen to though. Its got a fun beginning, its fun to sing to..its got a really neat beat. It's just a cool song. 9.5/10 12. I'm A Fake - The speaking in the beginning gives the song a deep angry feeling. "My sad sorry selfish cry out to the cutter. Im cutting trying to picture your black broken heart. Love is not like anything, especially a f**king knife". This song is one of my favorites. It's got a lot of emotion in it. And of course, Im a big sucker for Bert's scream. 10/10 Every song is my favorite, I would've given them all a 10 but I realized I had to give some variation. The Used has proved that they can make intense, loud, angry, emotional songs but they can turn around and make a slow, soft and beautiful melody with deep meanings. They're talented in so many ways. They are definitley one of the best bands going out there. You may like the debut better, or you may like In Love and Death it all depends on what kind of music you like but they're both worth admiring and enjoying.

Well, i'll simply say that even when they go a bit slower, it's still pretty good. Of course, the best of The Used comes from tracks like : I'm a fake, listening, Sound effects and Overdramatics, let it bleed and take it away. A must buy !!

Basically, The Used have turned more or less into a pop punk band. Nearly every element of hardcore left remaining in their music has vanished leaving Bert singing (not screaming) the same song over and over again. Songs 2 through 8 sounds pretty much the same. I am a huge fan of their first CD, don't get me wrong, I'm not just bashing them because I'm not a fan, but this CD did not reach my expectations. If you are a huge The Used fan go buy it, but if not i'd recomend not buying because its not a must buy. Sorry Guys... better luck on the next one.
