I only bought this cd to hear the Dahl Music for Brass Instruments, which is a great piece of music. It's so fresh, modern, and dramatic and I never tire of it. The Canadian Brass seems to have unlimited technique and they play this difficult piece effortlessly--and therein lies my reservations for this performance. It's too effortless! I prefer a heavier sound with more drama in the first movement (after all, it's based on the Bach Chorale "Christ lay in the bonds of death"), and a little less playfulness in the second movement. But if you want to hear a digital high fidelity recording of this work on cd, then I am not aware of any other recordings out there. A very fine performance of this work is posted on You-tube by the Naval Brass Academy.
