Book Description

Sept. 1 2006 Disney Fairies

MAGIC MIGHT BE CLOSER THAN YOU THINK. For just beyond the world you see, there is another world where the air shimmers with pixie dust and the impossible happens every day. Far beyond the horizon, on the magical island of Never Land, there is a patch of forest called Pixie Hollow. Never fairies have lived in these enchanted woods for as long as anyone can remember, in a realm that is all their own. Here, butterfly-herding fairies guide their flocks to fields of flowers. Water fairies create symphonies from the tiniest trickles of water. Harvest fairies collect honeysuckle nectar by hand, and animal fairies chat with hummingbirds in their own language. For among the Never fairies, there is a talent for every task, and each thing the fairies do is touched with magic. Now you can step into Pixie Hollow and take a good look around, with this complete guide to the fascinating world of the Never fairies. Learn what fairies eat for dinner, where pixie dust comes from, how to cure the fairy flu, and much more. With loads of fairy facts, profiles of your favorite fairies, and beautiful illustrations on every page, this is the ultimate guide for anyone who believes in fairies.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Secret World of Pixie Hollow Jan. 15 2007
Format:Hardcover
I found this book to be a fantastic supplement to the Disney Fairies chapter book series. The illustrations were phenomenal and the book really helped to bring the imaginary world to life and extend the stories. The one criticism that I have is that I think the book could have been more interactive. For example, there is a recipe for "Dulcie's Poppy Puff Rolls", that includes fictional ingredients in fairie size quantities. My daughters would have loved a conversion recipe, to allow them to make something similar. Also the fairie leaf lettering, while a neat concept and absolutely beautiful, is quite intricate. My daughters wanted to write their own messages to each other using this code, but found it much too difficult for them to draw the tiny differences between the leaves. Over all, this book is a worthwhile addition to the Disney Fairies collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and charming Aug. 22 2010

This is a beautifully illustrated picture book on fairies. It's a children's book, particularly for girls.

The text is about the fairies, where they come from, how they live, what they do and their home Pixie Hollow. There are plenty of fairies, including Tinkerbell (from Peter Pan), each with unique characteristics and quirks making it fun to read.

The illustrations are colourful, detailed and charming. The art is drawn by Disney storybook artists, collectively named. Designs of the fairy dresses are really nice.

Disney is great at creating magic, and this book has a good dose.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully illustrated! Magical for children and adults alike! Oct. 31 2006
By Katie Tuccelli - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I have been in love with anything Fae since I was a little, little girl, and am especially in love with anything Tinker Bell. I am 20 years old, and I must say, I enjoyed this book immensely. The illustrations were colorful, vivid, detailed and beautiful, and the way the book moves you from place to place in the world of Pixie Hollow will make you smile and wish you could go there.

I highly recommend this book for children and adults alike. I think I'll be purchasing another copy for my five-year-old niece this Christmas.

Parents, do your children a favor and keep magic and wonder in their lives by giving them this book...and remember to clap if you believe in fairies!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Beautiful Dec 8 2006
By Jill Robinson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I saw this book today at Toys 'R Us, and stood spellbound for at least 5 min amidst hurried holiday shoppers. Believe me, 5 min in Toys 'R Us during this time of year means this book is something special.

The book was $18.99, and I put it down with regret. But it was so pretty, and interesting, that I went back to it before I left. I found the book simply remarkable. But still, the price got me. I'm 26 and couldn't imagine buying it for myself, and I have a little boy at home, so I put it back again. But for the price listed on Amazon, its a great deal!

The coolest thing, beside the beautiful artwork, is the explainations for the everyday life of the fairy. I remember reading about the Fairy Queen, and the homes of the fairy's, and the day-to-day chores they do. It was really interesting! So if you're buying for a little girl, between the ages of 3-14, I recommend getting this. I would love it if someone got it for me, even now!

5.0 out of 5 stars A gorgeous book to look at Jan. 7 2007

This was a Christmas gift to a 6 year old, but I thoroughly enjoyed looking at it myself. The illustrations are very pretty and I would say each of the 140 pages in it has at least one picture on it. You can flip to any page and read a short story or history to a child and they can enjoy the photos. Right now my daughter is flipping through the pages, telling me what different things she learned about faeries on each page. And the price with Amazon is the best, I have yet to find it cheaper, this is worth the money they are asking for such a nice, large hardback book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Sweet Dec 19 2006
By Miss Mermaid - Published on Amazon.com

Even though, I love more traditional Faery artwork like that of the Duirwaigh Gallery or David Delamare, I do enjoy vintage Disney as well. Disney has a new line of Fairy books. I think this is one of the better ones. The illustrations are very, very sweet. I love them as an adult of 26 years, but a little girl or boy would simply adore this book. Disney really tried with this one - it's not cheesy, like so many of their new productions, which I simply don't have the stomach for. I gave it 4 stars because I thought a few of the illustrations could have been more detailed in portraying the Pixie Hollow.
