Una is searching for something: like a horse, but not quite. Una is new, as though she were only just born. Indeed, Hero, the hero of the story, accidently sits on the naked girl-child when he tries to rest on a haystack.
Is this an improptu bed-time story which grew? If so, I would have liked to be the child who not only heard the story but also must have contributed to it.
In Search of Unicorns has everything needed for an excellent fairytale: a prophecy, a hero, an innocent maiden to be rescued; a not-so-innocent young woman,
Amberlush; a tempter, Obnokshuss and, of course, a unicorn.
In the process of the quest, the prophecy may be fulfilled and the villain foiled, provided that...
Well written, lively, hilarious in places, charming, In Search of Unicorns is everything a good child's story should be - especially since it can be enjoyed equally by adults.

This book has been in my possession for many years, and it's one of my favorites. The unique integration of the wonderful text and the beautiful illustrations makes this book very special.
I tried to find it many times to give it to others, but I never saw it again. It definitely deserves a reprint!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely beautiful book, Nov 15 2000

Any lover of Unicorns should try their hardest to get a copy of this book! The story is heart touching and the pictures are absolutely beautiful (the copy I have was illustrated by Wendy Hall). It's a shame this book is out of print! This is the first time that I've ever seen the book anywhere but in my house; perhaps it wasn't pushed in the States that much? Mine was printed in London.
