Phantom Planet's cover is amazing Sep 6 1999

Somebody's Baby has always been my favorite song (Fast Times is my fav movie) and when I heard Phantom Planet do it, I was so stoked. Phantom Planet is so amazing, and they rock on this album, as well as their own.

Cool covers by Ben Lee, Donnas, Rondelles, etc Feb 25 1999

This is an awesome collection and a really cool theme for an album, all those '80s new wave songs from the John Hughes movies roughed up by '90s kids. Ben Lee and Spitoon's cover of If You Were Here sounds almost country. The Donnas cover of School's Out is the best cover of this song I've heard (way better than Soul Asylum's). They sound like little schoolgirls about to storm the principal's office. Other bands here were new discoveries. The Rondelles and Grown-Ups are great indie girl rock power pop and Knock-Ups are all whiney with a punk rock boy singing Johnny Are You Queer. I also like Phantom Planet doing Somebody's Baby. Most compilations have at least a few sucky songs but there's not a bad one in the bunch here.

This CD is fantastic. I bought it for the Donnas cover of "School's Out" and the Rondelles, but there are lotsa great tracks here.
