Book Description

Kelly Hoppen has produced a sourcebook of fresh, original ideas, all drawing on fashion, architecture, and nature for inspiration. Her focus is texture, and how to use it as effectively as possible in the home. She explores such materials as fabric, stone, glass, and metal, revealing how they can create dramatic and stunning effects. The look and feel of these designs are luxurious yet comfortable.

About the Author

Kelly Hoppen is a talented talented British designer who has made the East meets West decorating style her trademark. Her commissions have included the homes of fashion designers (Amanda Wakely), furniture designers (David Linley), and perfumier Jo Malone, all attracted to her considered use of pure, luxurious fabrics such as Fortuny silks, Donghia chenilles, and rich velvets, from London to New York. Winner of the Andrew Martin Interior Designer of the Year award (1996), her work has featured on the front cover of 'Elle Decoration', (Hong Kong, Spain) and she has appeared on Japanese television. In September 1998 Kelly Hoppen launched a complete line of home accessories at Debenhams, in stores throughout the UK.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW- wonderful book!, Feb 5 2002
I really enjoyed the harmony of Kelly Hoppen's book. I had never thought how the combination of different textures could make a room so interesting but it works! I found the pictures tranquil and inspiring, and would recommend the book to anyone who wants to take their design to a higher level (and definitely with minimal clutter!). The only strange aspect was her keen devotion to "wenge wood" - whatever that may be!

5.0 out of 5 stars Edited design with style / a photo fest of design for today., Oct 12 2000

This is a very beautifully edited book of design for today and a timeless look into the future of interior design. Although this book is primarilly focused on residential interiors, the simplicity of detail and design presents it also as being applicable to commercial design.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interiors using everyday ingredients, July 16 2011

For anyone undertaking home design or decoration , whatever the budget, this is a book for you. A wonderful discussion about the touch and feel of combining fabric and stuff you enjoy. She emphasizes that sensational ( and cost effective) interiors can be produced with the ingredients of everyday life. Why collect stuff that you can't use or look at, right. She also helped me understand fung shui in practical terms and recognize how the senses incorporate water, earth, metal, fire and wood. Stunning photography of simple yet dramatic combinations.
