With the fate of our planet arguably hanging in the balance, An Inconvenient Truth may prove to be one of the most important and prescient documentaries of all time. As he jokingly refers to himself, "former President-elect" Al Gore felt an urgent personal calling to draw attention--as he had been doing throughout his political career--to the increasingly desperate crisis of global warming, and this riveting documentary is basically a filmed version (by respected TV director Davis Guggenheim) of the PowerPoint lecture that Gore has presented (by his own estimate, well over 1,000 times) to attentive audiences all over the world. Considering Gore's amiable, low-key approach to charts, graphs, statistics, and photographs that leave no room for doubt regarding the reality (not "theory") of global warming as Earth's ultimate environmental crisis, many viewers will be surprised by just how fascinating and convincing this no-frills film really is.

As we learn about the milestone events that shaped his character (including his sister's death and young son's near-fatal injuries after being struck by a car), Gore sheds the stiff demeanor of his 2000 presidential campaign and impresses us as a man with a mission, transcending partisan politics with an impassioned plea for common sense, ethical forthrightness, and passionate purpose in reversing the harmful effects of global warming through personal and political responsibility. Some may accuse Gore of exploiting global warming as a Democratic platform, but his honest conviction regarding this "inconvenient truth" (i.e. overwhelming evidence of global warming that's troublesome to those whose interests are threatened by Gore's irrefutable message) is likely to silence all but the most obtusely stubborn detractors. By taking the high road and discreetly avoiding a full-on assault against the George W. Bush administration (which has steadfastly avoided "the inconvenient truth" with obfuscating spin control and policies favoring the oil industry), Gore effectively rises above political differences with a stern but hopeful eye toward a better future for our children.--Jeff Shannon

While this film was impressive when I first saw it, after being exposed to some of its many errors, I have to discarded it as flawed. I have since thrown it away. The one star is for presentation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very educational, Sep 16 2006

An Inconvenient Truth is something everybody should see, no matter what your beliefs are about it. I think it will open your mind to such a disasterous, incomprehendable outline of the years ahead of us--that is, if nothing is done about it.

Buy it, rent it, burn it, download it, whatever--just see it. I give it a two thumbs up in being very educational and very, very important.

The only thing I didn't like about the movie was it seemed Al Gore was telling his own life story a little too much. But please, please don't let that deter you away from seeing the movie. Trust me, Al Gore's life is easy to forget about while watching the movie. Just every once in a while, there is something about him that doesn't need to be there.

All in all, I give the movie a 5 out of 5 for backing up all the environmentalists, scientists, politicians and other concerned citizens throughout the world. It offers a very convincing and strategic outlook on global warming.

"An inconvenient truth", directed by Davis Guggenheim, allows you to watch a lecture about global climate change that Al Gore has given many times, in different parts of the world. Strangely enough, it is not boring, and even though the subject is somewhat complicated, Gore manages to make it accessible to the spectator.

Al Gore is entertaining and patient with his audience, saying that "It is just human nature to take time to connect the dots. I know that. But I also know that there can be a day of reckoning when you wish you had connected the dots more quickly". According to him, climate change and how we react to it is ultimately not a political issue so much as a moral issue. Once you are aware of what is happening, and realize that climate change is not just a "theory", you will have to act, because there is just no other option. Either you are part of the problem, or one of those trying to find a solution.

I strongly believe that this dvd should be seen by everybody, because it tackles a difficult subject that concerns us all, that is climate change and the way in which it is affecting our planet. Disregarding your political ideas or the place where you live, there are some disturbing facts that you won't be able to deny any longer, even if they lead to an inconvenient truth.

In the last few minutes of this movie, Al Gore says that he set himself a goal, to try to communicate clearly what he has learnt about global climate change. Congrats on a well-done job, Mr. Gore! And thanks...
