Trevor’s need to guard and protect is born of tragedy, prompting his decision to become a search and rescue volunteer. Natalie’s gift of sculpting comes from an unusual disability that seeks release through her creative hands. In each other they see strength and courage as they face an incomprehensible foe.
When a troubled soul views Trevor as archangel and adversary, Redford’s peaceful mountain community is threatened. Together with Police Chief Jonah Westfall, Trevor presses his limits to combat the menace who targets the most helpless and innocent.

Suspenseful, engaging and intriguing,

This review is from: Indelible: A Novel (Paperback)
Indelible is the latest book by Kristen and the sequel for Indivisible. It continues the story of Jonah and Tia after they marry and also introduces two new characters Trevor MacDaniel and Natalie Reeve. Trevor is a former Olympic hopeful who has suffered a devastating accident that has ended his Olympic dreams. Now, he runs an establishment for hard-core athletes in rock-climbing and white water river-rafting. After saving a toddler from a lion attack, he encounters the lovely and mysterious Natalie Reeve who has an unusual gift of eidetic memory. They begin a tumultous relationship which had its emotional ups and downs as a normal relationship though amplified by Natalie's gift of memory and Trevor's hero complex. Then an opponent soon sends Trevor disturbing photos of children in duress.I really enjoyed this intriguing book which has been unlike a lot of other books I've read before. Kristen did a wonderful job of weaving the plots and including the Paradise Lost by John Milton into the story. I will definitely keep reading any new stories by Kristen.

Like a good movie.,

Overall definitely worth a read, just enough suspense that I felt a bit shivery reading it, but wasn't affected by it when I put the book down. It made we want to learn more about eidectic memory, and left me cheering for all the relationships in the book, not just the romance between the main characters. With all that going on the author even managed to thrown in a cute kid and a baby. I like nothing better than some good adult/child interactions in a novel. I especially love it when the author champions parenting practices that I think are worth putting out there. One of the side characters breastfeeds and carries her baby in a sling so we are soul mates. Also Nattie, when caring for her nephew who has just been through traumatic events, physically and emotionally, is very compassionate and kind with him, bed sharing even when he wets the bed, and allowing him to work through the things he has been through with understanding. You learn a lot about he characters through their interaction with each other, there is room for beauty, and pain. Romance, and reality. There isn't just good and bad. Each character shows strengths and weaknesses, often due to the same life event or disability. She shows that everything in life can be used for evil or for good, right down to the antagonist. I was thoroughly creeped out by the events leading up to the climax, but by the end I felt something akin to understanding for him and how his life path led him to where he is in the story. An impressive amount of concepts woven together into a captivating book that thoroughly drew me in and pulled me along. I received a complementary review copy of this book from Waterbrook Multnomah Publishers under no obligation for a positive review. For the full review: [...]

A Story of Greatness,

This review is from: Indelible: A Novel (Paperback)
He's a hero--to everyone but himself. An Olympic gold medalist turned search and rescue volunteer, Trevor MacDaniel spends his days teaching children to rock climb and taking customers whitewater rafting. He's always looking for someone to rescue, whether it be a toddler from a mountain lion or a single woman from her family's rejection. Natalie Reeve is an art gallery owner with a beautiful talent--or is it a disability? As Trevor and Natalie grow closer, each looks inward to face their greatest weaknesses. Meanwhile, Trevor's passion for rescuing people attracts the wrong type of attention. Heitzmann combines beautiful prose with rich, compelling characters. From the ghosts of fish that swim through mountain streams to the height and beauty and danger of the ski slopes, the reader is completely immersed in the lives, hopes, and dreams of Trevor and Natalie. The things others admire most about Trevor and Natalie are the very things they each despise about themselves. Their story is gripping, not only because of the evil lurking in the shadows, but because that evil forces them to overcome their flaws. I also loved the use of Paradise Lost. I remembered enjoying this epic in college, but hadn't revisited it since. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful

Fast paced page turner,
By Courtney - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Indelible: A Novel (Paperback)
Is Trevor an Archangel or just a local hero? That is the question I asked myself throughout Indelible. Trevor is former Olympian who now teaches skiing/hiking and surviving skills to kids along with whitewater rafting and rock climbing. On the side he is a local hero who is always helping local police find the missing or injured along the mountainside. He rescues his new neighbor Natalie's nephew from the jaws of a lion and that is how they meet each other. Natalie owns the art gallery next to Trevor's store. Natalie has a gift (or disability) for sculpting but it doesn't come without a cost. I really enjoyed Indelible even though there were moments I was completely freaked out! Total Page-Turner!! I knew there would be some mystery involved but I never thought I'd literally get the chills reading this book. This book reminded me a lot of a favorite show of mine, Criminal Minds where you are seeing things from multiple angles. You are in the mind of the evil right from the start and at times I didn't understand what was going on but it all made sense the more you read. You also got to see things through the main characters point of view along with the detectives and police force as well. I could not read Indelible fast enough!! I loved the unique story line the most. I had never heard about this sort of disability with Natalie before and I was fascinated with her story. I also really enjoyed being in the mind of the evil. The ending is unpredictable and I never knew what was going to happen next. The characters were so compelling and passionate. Both Trevor and Natalie were dealing with some pretty awful history and hated a lot of things about themselves but as this story unfolded I loved seeing them grow and mature in to accepting who God made them to be. I was immersed in their stories right from the start. Not only was this about learning to happy with yourself, this is also about family, love, and forgiveness all wrapped up in a thrilling mystery which a romance woven in throughout! This book was fascinating and I will be thinking about the characters and the story for a while! I received this book from WaterBrook Press's blogging for books program for free. In exchange I give my honest review of the book. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful

Poetically haunting and excruciatingly beautiful,
By Lydia "The Overweight Bookshelf" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Indelible: A Novel (Paperback)
Poetically haunting and excruciatingly beautiful, this psychological thriller will have you perched on the edge of your seat.Kristen has created a cast of damaged characters who are living out ironic contrasts: a woman with a gift to capture a person's soul but is tormented by what she sees; a man with the will to save but risks losing everything; and another who seeks to correct evil through terror. That is just a sampling of the intriguing host of characters that leaps off the pages. This book is a treat for reader's who love to study characters and delve in to their innermost beings. Each character has found a way to survive their dysfunctional pasts by turning their quirks, failings, idiosyncrasies, and limitations into gifts that are unique to each of them. The integration of excerpts from Paradise Lost preceding sections told from the antagonists point of view magnified the complexity of that character. Kristen's prose will give you goosebumps in one paragraph and move you to tears in the next. She manipulates readers' emotions by painting vistas of words that draw us deep into the character's heart and psyche without a map showing where it will take us and what lies ahead. This is a must-read psychological thriller/romantic suspense! I must go back and read the prequel Indivisible, which I some how missed. Rating: 9/10 **review copy provided by publisher** |
