Product Description

These liquid decorating colours are made from highly concentrated vegetable colourants and contain no synthetic dyes. They produce icings in soft pastels and rich jewel tones found only in nature. Combine the three colours to create a full spectrum of colours.
Set of 3 bottles, ¾ ounce/21 grams each
Colour/Pattern: Red, yellow, and blue
Ingredients: Blue: glycerin, vegetable juice, filtered deionized water; Red: beet juice, citric acid; Yellow: glycerin, turmeric, deionized water
Allergens: Contains no corn syrup or synthetic dyes
Kosher
NOTE: Two year shelf life, but best before December 2013 (as the product contains no additives or preservatives, the intensity of the colours achieved will degrade over time) or keep refrigerated to prolong shelf life. The blue colour produces purple-blues to green-blues when added to frostings and icings, depending on the pH (more acid tends to purple; more alkaline tends to green) and other factors.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just what I expected. Sep 22 2010

From other reviews I had a feeling that the colours wouldn't be the same as those produced by artificial colouring. The yellow gives a very vibrant colour with little dye, while it takes a lot of the red dye to get a dark red-pink colour. I haven't tried the blue yet, but I guess that using a lot of dye isn't that bad because they expire in about 2-3 months and it's a natural product. I would purchse this product again the next time I need food colouring.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for very light colors Sep 23 2011
I made an Elmo cake using these colors and honestly used almost the entire bottle of red, plus a good bit of the yellow. Considering shipping costs, it cost me about $12 to color the icing for one Elmo cake. The result was pretty decent, visually, but the icing didn't taste quite right. Not horribly off, but noticeable. I would not recommend using these colours for vibrant decorating jobs but pastels would be fine. There is a chart for mixing colors at the India Tree website -[....]

3.0 out of 5 stars Natural Decorating Colours May 18 2010
I searched extensively for natural decorating colours. I thought they would be especially useful for kids since I've heard artificial colours are bad for them. However, with this product, I have been disappointed by the amount of colouring needed....at $25 for a set of three bottles, I think it would take a whole lot to colour just one batch of icing. I have only used it once so I am willing to keep trying it out...maybe some colours are easier to get than others. It would have been useful to have a 'colour chart' that tells you how much of each bottle (red, green, blue) to mix to achieve certain colours.
