In his Your Gut Feelings: A Complete Guide to Living with Intestinal Problems ( LJ 9/1/87), Janowitz, the former head of the gastroenterology division at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, provided an excellent guide to the ailments that plague the lower gastrointestinal tract. In this easy-to-understand companion, Janowitz answers questions about the causes and prevention of common upper gastrointestinal problems. He begins with a chapter describing how digestion occurs when the digestive tract is functioning properly. Then describing common tests for digestive problems, he devotes a chapter to each of the major upper GI ailments, such as ulcers, gallstones, food allergies, hiatal hernias, etc. Janowitz finishes with a section on minor digestive complaints such as belching and difficulty swallowing. Essential for all consumer health collections.
