Sigh...I LOVE Lauren Dane and wanted to LOVE this book as much as Jennifer Aniston loves her Angelina voo-doo doll..., July 27 2010
By C. Church - Published on Amazon.com
But, alas. It was just not meant to be.
I was introduced to Lauren Dane a few months ago when I was given one of her books in an international airport as a sort of random act of kindness by a very cool-lady-stranger. I've been hooked on this author ever since and she's pretty much an automatic buy for me these days. That being said, I was really looking forward to this story and in preparation read and re-read the first in the series featuring Daniel's sister, Abbie, Relentless. GREAT BOOK. Awesome characters and characterizations, tight writing, amusing dialogue. In that book, Daniel was well-written and really made you want to know more.
For some reason, all the good stuff going on in the first book just didn't translate to this second book for me. I never felt connected to Daniel and was sort of annoyed by Carina. Even the writing style seemed less polished than in Relentless or in Dane's other series that begins with Laid Bare. I'm trying to put my finger on what exactly didn't work for me and all I can come up with is that I just simply didn't connect to the people in this book like I have with other books Dane has written. I also didn't feel too much tension when Carina and Daniel were on the run from the Imperials. Hey, I guess every book can't be a home-run for every person, right?
Honestly, the best part of the book for me was learning about Daniel's partner in the Corps...I'm sure he'll have his own book someday and I'll look forward to it. Dane will still be at the top of my to-be-read pile, but this one was just a bit of a miss for me.

Insatiable by Lauren Dane
Erotic Paranormal - July 6th, 2010
4 1/2 stars
In Insatiable Lauren Dane again brings to life her incredible futuristic world filled with dangerous intrigue and super sexy men!
Carina lives in fear. On her planet woman are regulated to property without any rights. Although she is a princess on her world, she realizes that she is merely a pawn and hides her intelligence behind her beauty and playgirl persona. In desperate rebellion she and her mother have secretly been passing information to the Federation concerning the corruption occurring under her father's rule. But now Carina needs the Federation desperately. She must escape from an arranged marriage to a malicious and dissolute, old crony of her father's. Her mother pleads with the Federation to rescue Carina. As an incentive, her mother has implanted vital information into Carina's body that can only be assessed if she is still alive.
Daniel Haws knows heartbreak and he is willing do whatever it takes to prevent further bloodshed. As a member of the Federation's elite Shadow Corps he is assigned to extract Princess Carina from enemy territory. He expects a spoiled and vapid female, but is shocked to discover Carina hides a vibrant and sharp mind under her beautiful facade. Soon he is fighting against his attraction for Carina, knowing his poor origins do not match her lineage and their relationship can only end badly.
But Carina wants to finally live, and being with Daniel makes her feel alive. She has learned to take whatever happiness she can, and being with Daniel is worth any cost.
Insatiable is a fantastic futuristic with some very steamy scenes but not as erotic as her first book (Undercover) in the series, or as much as her contemporary books. I enjoyed the transformation from Carina's more timid nature into a strong woman who is confident in her sensuality. Daniel is honorable, although he feels that he isn't. His struggles to do the right thing and keep his hands off of Carina were the funniest passages to read! (Especially because Carina was purposely tempting him!) I couldn't wait for them to finally get together.
The secondary characters really made this book, and they added a rich fullness. I hope the author continues this series past 3 books. I particularly was intrigued by Carina's self sacrificing mother. She was my favorite character and I hope she is still alive since her future seemed very tenuous after Carina escaped. I would very much like her to have a happy ending. (Especially since she was bound to Carina's cruel father from such a tender age.) I would also love to know what happened to Carina's relatives and the small resistance group on their planet and hope some of these gaps will be revealed in future books?!
This book is sure to please readers who love fantasy, adventure and sizzling romance.

Another great book in the Federation series, Aug 7 2010

This is another great book in the Federation series. I would recommend buying them all, starting with book one and just reading them all in a row. Actually, I would recommend any book written by Lauren Dane.
