I've always been fascinated by the German language and culture, this book has helped myself and my family to get one step closer to our heritage. The book and tape was expertly written and thought out. From the very first day, I and my family were speaking German. And because of this book, my and my families efforts to search out our family genealogy have met with positive success. Because of this book we can finally read the genealogy documents that before because they were written in German, were impossible to use. I never thought that learning German would be so easy or intresting and fun! Thank you.

I bought this book with the accompanying cassette and I would recommend this book to anyone. I live in Germany and right from week one I was able to communicate and be understood by Germans. I could even understand most of what they were saying back to me. Since completing the course my confidence to talk with Germans has improved in leaps and bounds, as has my vocabulary. I, however, strongly recommend you purchase the cassette with the book to aid pronoucation.

Just Do It July 5 2015

The Teach Yourself Instant series are my favorite way to prepare for a trip to Europe. They are well organized and only require a short time every day- consistency makes the day. I have studied Italian, French, Greek and now German. They absolutely allow me to communicate the basics in just about any situation, and make my vacations much more fun and interesting.

Definitely buy the book with the tape. You need to hear the sounds, over and over. I'm old fashioned and don't mind using a tape. Whatever method you do use, success comes with consistent practice, mostly hearing and speaking. This book starts with a weekly dialogue, list of vocabulary, very lean and basic grammer, a memorization piece, hearing and speaking practice and a written test, which amazes me that I can do what it asks at the end of each week.

They also include words and phrases that you can cut out(I just leave them in) and practice frequently. Follow the steps faithfully, and you too will be amazed. The 400 words they give you and the basic structures is enough for simple travel. If you want more get their beginner course, but have fun with it and enjoy using it- it works!
Learn German Quickly But With A Structured Approach June 14 2015
By Eds Word - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Pretty good for its purpose of building a workable capacity to speak conversational German within a short time. The grammar is distilled to the essentials and what little there is gets presented a user-friendly way. There are a few minor translation errors (minus one star) but knowing that shouldn't keep you from purchasing this book if all you have is a short time to learn the language. Rosi McNab's "Beginner's German" is a bit more comprehensive but "Instant German" is preferable if you are in a hurry; both are excellent for self-study.
