Although intarsia—the assembly of various woods into a unified mosaic piece—is often perceived as a challenging, unapproachable woodcraft, this guidebook rejects that notion by describing the small, achievable steps, thereby offering crafters an easy entry-point into this rewarding art form. Following a progression, this resource starts simply, teaching how to cut basic shapes and introducing sanding concepts, and then leads to more advanced skills, such as stack cutting and finishing techniques that add shading and grain to the mosaic masterpiece. Each step is organized into 17 total mini-lessons, including practice exercises and a final step-by-step guided project. Five additional patterns for each skill level round out the chapters for a total of 20 patterns.
About the Author
Kathy Wise has been sculpting animals for the gift trade for more than 25 years. She is the author of Intarsia Woodworking Projects and has been featured in Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts and Woodcarving Illustrated. She lives in Emmitt, Michigan.

Having just recently started creating intarsia projects I was interested in a book which provided the very basic of this type of work. I was not disappointed. This book is excellent at presenting the subject in a clear and easily followed format. As you work through the levels in the book you cant help but pick up more details and skills. Only criticism and the reason for dropping one star relates to the fact you have to photocopy the plans and in some cases enlarge them. A hard bound book makes this very difficult. I have split the spine and inserted everything in a folder. Not a big deal but could have been addressed with a spiral bound format or the inclusion of plans separately.

Great book. Great plans. Great pictures. Great hints. Very inspirational. If you want to see what can be done with 'Intarsia' this is a wonderful book.

Kathy Wise has put together a book that is very easy to follow for beginners, as well as the advanced wood worker. Step by step intruction, beautiful projects, will have you creating beautiful pieces of art in no time. Highly recommend all of Kathy Wise books.. I am new to this Intarsia woodworking and have found her books very helpful....
