About the Author

Dr. M. Zafar Iqbal is a Professor of Accounting at California Polytechnic State University - San Luis Obispo. He holds CPA, CMA, CIA, and CCA certifications. Dr. Iqbal has served as a consultant to business organizations, not-for-profit organizations and the Federal Government. He was founding President of the Central Coast Chapter of The Institute of Management Accountants and also served as Chapter's Chairman of Board. Dr. Iqbal has received Certificate of Distinguished Service from the Institute of Management Accountants in 1994 and 1996 and Certificate of appreciation from the California Society of Certified Public Accountants in 1995. His international experience includes a two-year assignment in the Middle East during academic years 1996-98, where he served as Head of the Accounting Department at Sultan Qaboos University - The National University of Oman, and also traveled extensively in the region to collect data for a project funded by a research grant. Dr. Iqbal has published extensively in academic and professional journals including The Journal of Accountancy, Management Accounting, International Journal of Accounting and Accounting Research. He has served as an External Expert Reviewer to the Financial Accounting Standards Board on two projects involving comparisons of the International Accounting Standards and U.S. GAAP.

Dr. Iqbal is a member of the American Accounting Association, European Accounting Association, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, The Institute of Management Accounting, California Society of Certified Public Accountants and its State Committee on global Opportunities, and The Academy of Business Education. He is an inductee to the Stuart Cameron McLeod Society - the Honor Society of The Institute of Management Accountants. Overall, I found the book pricey given the quality... The layout is also not as user friendly as other textbooks in the field. For every topic it does give an example, but does not always clearly outline the steps obtained to achieve the displayed solution. Not to mention the fact that there is almost one error in every larger example.
