Product Description

Product Description

Green Day has defined modern rock-raw power, musical freedom, frantic energy. Now the band that sparked the neo-punk revival has earned its first "best of" collection, International Superhits! Featuring two new songs plus 19 of the band's most popular tracks from its four Reprise albums, from the debut single "Longview" to "Basket Case," "When I Come Around," "J.A.R." and "Minority," International Superhits! is a retrospective not only of Green Day but of the modern rock era. Certified Gold by the RIAA. (1/02)

Amazon.ca

Strangely for a greatest hits compilation, Green Day's International Superhits opens with two new songs recorded in 2001. "Maria" is Green Day playing to their strengths, a burst of rattling skinny tie new wave that has you itching to join the nearest mosh pit, and the cool acoustic pop of "Poprocks and Coke" is worthy of the trio's Nimrod. The implication is clear: the unfortunate diversion undertaken by 2000's Warning (where the band horrifically mutated into The Levellers) is over and now it's business as usual. Thank God for that. Although a host of skate chancers have tried to rewrite the likes of "Basket Case" and "Brain Stew", no one does punk pop better than Billie Joe and the boys. No one does it quite as intelligently either. "Longview" almost sneers at the slacker ennui it seems to embody, "Welcome to Paradise" sneaks in a cheeky steal from Dead Kennedys, and "Redundant" runs on a sublime psyche melody worth of Elliott Smith. All of which proves you don't need a potty mouth and a dull 'tude to be a real rebel--and dreadlocks and dogs on strings are a definite no no. --Ian Watson

Green Day rocks. My favorite songs are Basket Case, When I Come Around, and Good Riddance. But I was wondering, why are so many people comparing Green Day and Blink-182? I've always compared Green Day with The Offspring, because they sound more similar and the media attention wasn't as big as it was on Blink. Let's highlight Green Day's career and Blink's career shall we: Green Day- formed in 1989 and released 2 albums before signing to a major label in 1994 and becoming the first breakthrough pop-punk act, they won tons of rock awards and alternative awards that year and gained lots of respect for their live shows, then in 1997 they made the ballad Time of Your Life which is still a classic today. Okay now, Blink: Formed in 1993 (4 years after Green Day...) and recorded a sloppy demo on their formed drummer's boom box. They released 2 CD's in 1994 on a small label, but then in 1997 got signed to a major label and made Dude Ranch, with the hit "Dammit". In 1999, they released Enema and became huge pop stars. They were on MTV constantly, Mark hosting TRL, girls loving them, etc. They were nominated at the MTV Awards for best POP video in the same category as Nsync. The same year they won "Sexiest Band" from Teen People... Wow their careers are reaaaallly similar...

All the songs on this CD are freaking awesome!
1) Maria- Previouly unreleased song; very rythmic- 9
2) Poprocks & Coke- Previously unrelaease song; this is a great song, but my least favorite on the CD (cause the lyrics are kind of dull, despite the good beat), but i still think its great- 8
3) Longview- a classic from 1994's Dookie with a beat that just fits the words to the song perfectly. one of my favorites!- 10
4) Welcome to Paradise- the song that made the band! from Dookie, its got a great punk sound and is awesome- 10
5) Basket Case- from dookie, its got a good beat and i love the lyrics- 10
6) When I Come Around- from dookie, the music is just so good, and the great lyrics just make it better. another good 1!- 10
7) She- from dookie, its a short little song that starts off slow, then gets louder- 9
8) JAR- from the movie agnus, its got a great sound to it and very meaningful lyrics- 9
9) Green Stink Breath- from 1995's Insomniac, its got a great punk sound- 9
10) Brain Stew- from insomniac, although the lyrics could be better, the hard rocking beat just goes along with the song's message perfectly- 9
11) Jaded- from insomniac, its only 1 1/2 minutes, but its got a great punk sound and i love how quickly it moves. another favorite!- 10
12) Walking Contradiction- from insomniac, the contradictary lyrics are just so nicely done- 10
13) Stuck With Me- from insomniac, i just love the whole message of the songs, and it has a really good beat- 10
14) Hitchin' a Ride- from 1997's Nimrod, the hard rocking beat is just song good and i love how it moves. another favorite!
