Interval (Yaoi Manga)
Ayumu Kashiwagi, a young member of the track team, had secretly developed a crush on his classmate Takahito Shinohara. Then, one day, his teammate Sawatari learned his secret, and took him against his will for his own amusement, just as a way to kill time. When the cold-hearted Sawatari suddenly began showing signs of warmth, Ayumu's heart wavered, even as he continued to resist...

5.0 out of 5 stars Good read, but would like it in an actual paperback March 23 2012

If you have the kindle and enjoy yaoi, I do recommend this manga. The relationship between the two characters is nicely tense throughout and you get a solid feel for each individual.

It's a classic seme is mean to the uke read. While that may have a been-there-done-that feel, it is strengthened by the fact that the 'uke' was once featured as a possible seme in an earlier work by the author. This switch up was nice and refreshing.

The artwork is clean, the hot scenes aren't over the top but they do make it very clear what is going on without pulling any punches.

I am hoping to see this in paperback at some point. I don't have a kindle and I would like to see this wonderful title on my bookshelf.

This may be a little spoilery, but even as a long time yaoi fan I cannot in good conscience recommend this manga.

While the art and story is loads better than in some of Itsuki's other works, this started out with a lot of interesting potential, but in the end it took the low road. What makes that a deal breaker for me, though, is that the manga centers around the repeated rape and blackmail of a young boy who is already struggling with the idea of his sexuality and an unrequited crush on his (initially homophobic, later gay/bi) best friend.

However, his abuser isn't his best friend, but his upper classman in the same sports club that he's in. There's really nothing to downplay or "pad" it like there is in so much other typical ero-manga, and the rape is depicted as violent, unwanted, and mentally and emotionally damaging. The abuser is unlikeable and completely sadistic, who constantly reaffirms that he's only doing this to the main character because it's satisfying to hurt him.

But in the end, the abusive upper classman suddenly has an epiphany that he loves the guy he's been utterly tormenting, and of course said guy finds out, blames himself for everything, and runs to the arms of his upperclassman for a mutually loving, contented happy ending. No depth, no acknowledgment or awareness that this is really messed up, and character continuity casually thrown out the window at the last minute--it's just five chapter of abuse and heartbreak and then a sixth with a saccharine, romantic conclusion.

I can buy the idea of "rape fantasy", but this was handled so poorly that I found it unenjoyable and anxiety inducing, and I am not someone who is easily offended or turned off from darker subjects. Your dollar is better spent elsewhere.

I usually enjoy books by itsuki, and I'm sure I would've enjoyed this one more as a regular book. it was very difficult to navigate and enlarge pages to read. for the money I paid I could buy a book, I hope they fix that issue, just saying.
