Review

"I chose this book because for me it covers the issues pertaining to intercultural communication that are relevant to today's society." -- Rosemary O'Donnell 20110209 --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Book Description

In this Fifth Edition, author Fred E. Jandt once again sparks student interest in this ever-changing field with an easy-to-read, highly accessible and exciting introduction to the art of effectively communicating across group barriers. An Introduction to Intercultural Communication: Identities in a Global Community explores the key concepts of communication and culture, addressing: group barriers that make such communication challenging; dimensions of culture; multiculturalism; women, family, and children; and more - while retaining its unique, non-biased appreciation for all cultures and ethnic groups. Students acquire valuable verbal and nonverbal communication skills, learn to communicate in unfamiliar settings, and recognize culture’s influence on self-perception.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Cross Cultural Communication book I've read, Jan 18 2011

This review is from: An Introduction to Intercultural Communication: Identities in a Global Community (Paperback)
This book describes the effect of culture on sensing, perception, selection, organization, and interpretation. I also learned that cross cultural communication as a field has a lot of statistical information that allowed one to see the ratings the countries had on various characteristics. The information that I found in the book was arranged in such a way that I could read a page or two each day and still learn something new or interesting. I also liked the information I found near the end of the book on the four types of marriages: traditional, independent, separate, and mixed.
Overall, this book is a good read! I highly recommend it.
