Book was in good condition, came with CD. Though unluckily I will only need it for about another week or so due to my course I needed it for being over by then.Wish I knew it was going to take a month instead of the 7-14 days I was originally told it was going to take.

2.0 out of 5 stars Barely scratches the surface of VB Jun 18 2009
By N - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I am rather disappointed in this textbook.

The text does seem to cover basic logic and forms well. However, it doesn't cover objects until the last chapter, and doesn't cover them near as much as it ought to. Furthermore, it takes a strictly GUI approach; the book doesn't cover console applications at all. Finally, despite having Visual Basic 2008 in the title, it doesn't cover LINQ or WPF; major additions to Visual Basic in 2008!

On the whole, I feel there are much stronger introductory textbooks available for VB, and would not recommend this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed bag of not-terribly good VB advice April 18 2011
By Craig Maloney - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book was used for a Visual Basic course that my wife took, so the most experience I had with it was in helping her resolve her programming problems. On the surface, this book looks like a decent introduction to Visual Basic, however it's when you dig deeper into the content that you realize this book is pretty superficial in handling the language. The examples are extremely contrived, and do little more than to show boring GUI changes (look, I made the text green, now it's red). I feel for any student that has had to use this book as a textbook, as it assumes a lot of a priori knowledge of computers and even Visual Basic itself. Overall this book does not treat Visual Basic as something that is fun to learn, but regards it more as a chore that must be muddled through.
