Youngsters often exhibit an insatiable appetite for adorable baby animals, and Is Your Mama a Llama provides plenty of fodder for fawning. Illustrator Steven Kellogg, however, manages to keep the pictures sweet without being saccharine. And rest assured, no matter how often your little one is compelled to kiss the critters, the sturdy board-book format will stand the test of time (and of course, slobber). (Ages 0 to 4) --This text refers to the Board book edition.

Mommy-baby Rhyme,
By Reflection Haiku "Lily Wang, Author" (California, USA) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Is Your Mama a Llama: Book and CD (Paperback)
In this children's whimsical favorite, wide-eyed baby Llama tours from daylight to sunset, asking his animal-friends the repeated question, IS YOUR MAMA A LLAMA and gets a different rhymed riddle each time for him (and the young readers) to guess the answers. The visits to the bats, swans, cows, seals, kangaroos and his own kind constitute a whole heartwarming poem where different creatures with similar twinkling smiles gather together to celebrate the mother-baby bond. Children learn the characteristics of each natural residents mentioned, hear the rhythm of crisp verses and enjoy the visually enchanting illustrations that end with little llama finally returns and cuddles up with his llama mama.

Who's your mama!,
By Vera C. Fran "book nut" (British Columbia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Is Your Mama a Llama? (Library Binding)
Beautifully illustrated and abounding with clever rhymes, this is a great bedtime story for young readers. It is simply enchanting. Page by page our young llama protagonist takes us through the animal kingdom of seals, cows, bats and others. Many are not llamas, but the last one is. i found it heartwarming.

My young daughters (now 3 and 7) dearly love this book. We have it memorized. It is sweet and the illustrations are beautiful. It is one of the few young books that I never get bored of reading. It is definitely a classic children's book.
