This movie is a great movie, probably the best from Michael Bay. The actors are very nice and there's a great chemistry between them. I would have given this movie 5 stars but you will see why I didn't.
The canadian version of the DVD has english and french soundtrack. On the back of the dvd, it is clearly written English 5.1 and French 5.1. Though, when you start the dvd and get to the setup screen, you get English 2.0 and French 5.1. At first, I thought it was a mistake on the setup screen but when actually playing it, it's really in English 2.0... Who the hell decided that the ORIGINAL english soundtrack would be in 2.0 ??? That was my biggest disappointment ever as I was waiting impatiently for this dvd since the theater release of this movie..
So if you don't have a 5.1 theater system, disregard this, but if you do, buy at your own risks.

this is for the bluray, as most of the other reviews on this page seem to be for the prior dvd release.

the english dts-HD master audio track is a loud crunching affair ..... lots of fun if you're in the mood for a full bombastic experience.

the image looks great.

i have no complaints regarding the technical aspects of this disc

what i was rather shocked at, and pleasantly surprised by, was the actual story and the world that that story takes place in. (thanks to all the previous reviewers who stated this point previously) i am here to confirm that ....

if you like films like:

logan's run
moon
children of men
blade runner
soylent green
gattaca
code 46
minority report

AND

you like gratuitous action and the sound of timpani drums ...

you will definitely enjoy this film.

it's slick but done well .... take it for what it is ... a summer popcorn action flick with a relevant thought provoking story. if you judge it on that basis, you can't go wrong.

I enjoyed this movie in the theatres, but the english soundtrack on this DVD is only Dolby Digital 2.0, while the French soundtrack is 5.1. Of course now that I've opened the package, the store that I bought it from won't even let me return the disc for a refund.

Please don't support Dreamworks by buying this DVD. It is a production error and it looks like they may be replacing the DVD with a cover to suggest that English 2.0 is the way the DVD was intended to be distibuted. We all know that's a total farce and that THEY screwed up by nbot including the English 5.1 audio on this DVD,
Make sure you tell your local Blockcuster, Future Shop and Best Buy and do yourself a favour if you want this movie - order it from Amazon.com or go to the US and buy it.
Canada has been ripped off here and we shouldn't stand for it.

This isn't a review, but rather a cautionary note: I just rented this DVD at my local shop (Queen West Video) and there was something odd with the soundtrack - Soundtrack 1 was French 5.1, and Soundtrack 2 was Englich 2.1... No 5.1 English soundtrack. The store said this was the regular release of the movie... so I would be careful picking this up. I mean, what is the point of a Michael Bay movie if you aren't listening to it in full surround!?!?

I've only ever seen this movie on TV with commercials until now. I love this movie, it's exciting, humorous, and has the usual message that people are not commodities to be exploited, even if they are copies.

I love anything Ewan, but this was a lot of fun to watch as he adopts an American accent which I found odd but effective. Fun for any true EM fan. *this is the only time I have been jealous of Scarlett. She gets Ewan and my darling SEAN BEAN to act with!!

I didn't expect such a "thought out" movie from Bay. It has some depth, even though the plot feels like a derivative of THX-1138 with more or less of an eye for destruction of property (Bay's brand of "filmmaking"), with far less subtleties than the George Lucas vehicle.

This should not mean that you can't enjoy a good sci-fi action once in a while and The Island has it all here with a bit of redundancy and a slight sense of urgency towards the third act which seems to want to quickly wrap things up. Nonetheless, it is enjoyable from beginning to end, it poses some very important questions AND makes for good entertainment. What's not to like?

Special features aren't too great in numbers, but you DO get close to 50 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage which show you an overview of how things were done before Bay entered the Transformers lore and truly wrecked things up (from my point of view).
