A return to what Sunny does best,
This review is from: It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia: Season 5 (DVD)
Having watched all the episodes of this season on the telly, I can safely say that this season is at least as funny as seasons 1-3, and much better than season 4. I am going to buy it over Amazon ASAP and watch the series again and again!I can safely say that this season includes: - a disastrous trip to the Grand Canyon - a product called Kitten Mittons (yes, spelled like that ;) god bless Charlie's illiterate brain) - Charlie and Mac devising a stupid movie, only to have it become a stupid and perverted movie when Dennis joins the mix - A LOT of shouting matches - Poisoning - Dennis wearing a thong - Sweet Dee with a cat stuck behind her wall (naturally Charlie lends her his feline expertise...) - Frank selling knives and vaccuums - Frank getting high at a funeral and hitting on the widow Episode 1 made me laugh until it hurt with Dennis and Mac as a pair of real estate agents called "Honey and Vinegar". Needless to say, Dennis is as smooth and disgustingly sticky as that name implies, and Mac mostly folds his arms and looks borderline satanic. Well...you have to see it to understand me. TBH, much as I love Sunny, I found season 4 was a little less than complete. There were some flop episodes for me. Season 5, however, was 100% laughter-guaranteed. They even brought back the creepiest man in the world: Uncle Jack! There are no bad episodes in season 5 - you can quote me on that. I will summarize this review by saying the word "milksteak". If you want to know what the heck that word means, you'll have to buy the DVD. ;)

I came to this show late in life, I didnt start watching until season 3. I had to buy seasons 1 and 2 to catch up, and I have been stuck ever since. I have vowed, if I ever won millions in the lottery, to donate 1 million dollars so that this show could keep on going. Mac and Charlie, Dennis and Dee and Danny DeVito as Frank are five of the biggest NUTS in Philadelphia. With thier get rich quick schemes ranging from becoming a surrogate mother for a well-to-do couple to writing a movie in competition with M.Night Shyamalan they get into mess after mess. The issues in this show are jaw dropping hilarous. Charlie thinking he is an attorney, Dennis thinking he is God's gift to women, while maintaining a quasi-homosexual relationship with Mac, Frank pulling a gun at every corner and Dee just being Dee, Sunny is a show that just makes life worth living.

I'm not reviewing the show itself, which is spectacular and worthy of 5 stars, but instead this specific Blu-ray release. I do recommend picking this up on regular dvd but here's what's wrong with the Blu-ray.The major problem is that the show isn't shot in HD, so these episodes are all upconverted SD. They admit to this fact straight off in a little specially filmed bit to explain this. While it's a neat little bit, it's still basically saying you shelled out the extra money for nothing. If you have an upconverting DVD player you'll be all set. There's a few blu-ray exclusive features but nothing that warrants the extra amount for this. Unless you find it at the same price as the normal DVD then stick with that. My other issue with this set (and I think the dvd set as well has these) are the audio commentaries. Now I made my review 3 stars instead of 2 since they even did audio commentaries at all and I think that's great but there's only a couple and 2 of them are horribly ruined by sticking Dr. Drew from Celebrity Rehab into them. It would be a kinda funny additional commentary for intervention episode, but having that instead of a normal commentary is just bad. And it's made worse by how extremely boring his commentary is. So buy the DVD, the episodes are awesome and you'll watch them over and over, but skip the Blu-ray. 22 of 27 people found the following review helpful

One of the Funniest Shows on TV,
By Kristen Lloyd - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia: Season 5 (DVD)
This show is one of the most original and funniest shows on television right now. The characters are dynamic and hilarious, the situations are absurd, and the final product is nothing short of television brilliance. If you have never seen this show, you are truly missing out. Season Five finds the Gang in their element yet again, with episodes about drinking games and interventions. This is a show that no true comedy fan should miss.
