Product Description

From Amazon.com

Yes, the original version of that FM oldie "White Bird" is included on this CD. Formed in 1967 by former symphony violinist David LaFlamme, this popular group plowed through all of the San Francisco Sound's clichés at once: organ, fiddle and drum solos; epigrammatic sayings about love, time, and dreams that are so cheesy they would make a Hallmark hack blush; the soft-part-that-heads-steadily-toward-the-crescendo part; incongruously pieced-together prog-rock songs that plod on for way too long; off-kilter male and female singing; and a near-total lack of soul. This 1969 recording, then, is a clear blueprint of what not to do in psychedelic rock--with the exception of "White Bird," which retains a sheen of innocence and melodic oomph despite its daft, repeated utterance that "she must fly!" This reissue has a bright, clear sound and excellent separation; it will more than please fans of the original LP. However, those looking for an equal to the best works of Moby Grape, Quicksilver, and the Dead are encouraged to seek elsewhere. --Mike McGonigal

Peace on Earth July 12 2004
Format:Audio CD
I just bought a record player so I could hear my old album! I can't wait to get it on CD!
This is one I listen to in the morning that always seems to make a good start for the day and a great mood!
When I first moved away from home, I listened to this - and with as much pain of leaving my family home there was so much joy in being able to control what I listened to in the morning.
Need I say more - this is my REAL CLASSIC mood music...
Love takes a life time for a life line has been my moto for life! I am so pleased to share this with my son at the age I was at when I first heard it (15) without a skip in the record!

I have had this album and seen this group in concert back in the old days a couple of times. Now I have all their stuff on either vinyl or cd plus a couple of new ones, Creed Of Love and Workin' the Goldmine, which I got directly from David over the net. They are still around just like Brewer and Shipley. They both have web sites and interested fans should check them out.

Whoa... what the? Oh, yeah... right... Jan 22 2004
Format:Audio CD
I still get very stoned just listening to the sounds of this album (remember that word?) It takes me waaaaaaay back. Summer, 1970, the foothills of California, groovin', movin', bein'. I mean, I really get stoned.

But on the serious side, this is some very serious music that reflects the seriousness of the artists. David LaFlame did a marvelous job, as did the entire band. It's too bad they couldn't carry on and do more. This is one of the great studio albums of that era, ranking right up there with 'Pet Sounds' and 'Abby Road'. Technically perfect.

If you want to hear the Real IABD
Find their live stuff. You will see they were very multifacted. I have 3 different versions of White Bird, one of which has some very scorching lead guitar. Read more

San Francisco Sound is the WORST reissue label
This CD was sourced from an LP record. Almost as an omen, "Bombay Calling," which opened the second side of the LP, starts with a "wow" (speed error). Read more
