Product Description

From Amazon.com

New York guitar prodigy Joe Bonamassa opened for B.B. King before he was a teen, but blues is just the springboard for the sound on this second solo outing. Bonamassa spotlights his songwriting this time, using his fluid and fiery guitar work to punctuate muscular melodies more akin to anthemic arena rock than basic blues. While Bonamassa's debut disc, A New Day Yesterday, featured a supporting cast of Gregg Allman, Rick Derringer, and Leslie West, the follow-up keeps the focus on his power trio, with drummer Kenny Kramme and bassist Eric Czar providing most of the accompaniment (although keyboardist Cliff Magness creatively colors around the edges). Bonamassa is indeed a certifiable fretboard phenom, consistently capable of startlingly effective solos, but he's also a strong singer, and that's what makes the collection of songs, a dozen of the 13 cowritten by Bonamassa, successful. The title track, complete with a sizzling solo, sustains a Southern blues-rock feel, but most of the other songs, such as the power pop "Unbroken," the hard-rocking "Sick in Love," and the retro "Never Said Goodbye," which features Bonamassa on mandolin, showcase his abilities in different stylistic settings. --Michael Point

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally... a musician that both my husband and I enjoy, Mar 21 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: So It's Like That (Audio CD)
Though we've much in common otherwise, my husband and I have rarely seen eye-to-eye when it comes to musical tastes in our two and a half years together. He's more a fan of the G3 set, while I tend towards groups like The Waterboys. The first time we saw Joe Bonamassa in concert, and the times we've seen him since, have been incredible. He's a master guitarist and one of the best I've seen live. This album captures the intensity of his live performances. You must add it to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Throw away the CD, the DVD is a keeper!!, Jan 23 2004

Let me preface this review by saying I'm a guitar player that is a die-hard Joe fan and have seen him live, as well as talking to him briefly after the show. He is an awesome guitar player that is a standout in the blues/ rock arena.
That being said, I was disappointed in the CD "So, It's Like That". It sounds too "pop-ish" to me and doesn't seem to fit Joe too well. The DVD, on the other hand, is a BLAST. I've almost worn it out. Great blues, rock, guitar work, camera and production work. It's just a lot of fun to watch, well worth the price of admission.

2.0 out of 5 stars missing something, Nov 29 2003

This review is from: So It's Like That (Audio CD)
Based on my affitnity for the blues/rck genre and the 5 star rating of Joe's playing I picked up the CD/DVD combo(Amazon) and was, I hate to admit it, dissappointed. Granted, he can play and has good chops, but for me, something was missing. Maybe that intangible. The fire that comes through the amps. Not that his playing was not emotional or inspired form his point of view, but for me it was lacking. I need to watch it again to see if I feel the same way. Like the a previous two star reviewer, I would have enjoyed seeing this guy in a local bar or someone's basement and would walked away satisfied. But when you start playing with the big boys, this guy comes up short.
