Product Description

Every generation of high schoolers needs a band to express the angst and agony specific to 14-to-18-year-olds. At present, that band is the Offspring. Their songs are aimed squarely at a younger crowd, from "The Meaning of Life" to "Leave It Behind" to "I Choose," and especially "All I Want" and "Change the World". Their occasionally insightful lyrics are anything but obscure, which is actually refreshing; there's real pain behind "Gone Away," and "Way Down the Line" taps into the common fear among the younger crowd of turning out just like our parents. Musically, the Offspring are hardly complex, but then complexity isn't a requirement. This is music to play at full volume, bang your head to, and annoy your neighbors. Cool. -- Genevieve Williams

The Offspring is my favorite band. This is probably their best album. Yeah Americana had a few good songs and so did Smash but this album is a true gem. This CD as usual with Offspring CD's has some sort of positive message in their song but without sounding cheesey. Sometimes you even forget the message and just want to rock out to the song. Here is a track by track review.
Disclaimer (3/5)-This is usual for an Offspring intro and I sorta agree with what he says about "if it offends you then don't listen to it". It sets up the next song very nicely
The Meaning Of Life (5/5)-One of my favorite songs with a really good beat and a nice message about following your own path and not someone else's.
Mota (4.5/5)-I actually really like this song. It opens nicely with a drum solo. The song is very catchy and it's about smoking "mota" and being a pothead and throwing your life away.
Me And My Old Lady (4/5)-A comedic song talking about his girlfriend. Kind of reminds me of "Why Don't You Get A Job" from Americana except much heavier. About how his "old lady" give him grief all the time. I like the bass line at the beginning
Cool To Hate (3/5)-I used to LOVE this song but now it's kinda old. It's about being outcast and hating everyone at school. A very fast upbeat song. Nice chorus
Leave It Behind (3.8/5)-Kind of a filler song but I still really like it. I can kind of just lay back and listen to this song. Pretty cool.
Gone Away (3.5/5)-This is where the album kinda slows down. The song is very emotional. I can hear the emotion in the song. It's about the world being gone away.
I Choose (4.5/5)-This song is great. I love it. Very catchy.

Ixnay on the Hombre can be grouped along Ignition and Smash as The Offspring's absolute best. Ixnay finds band at their catchiest, with their most accessible and appealing songs in all the glory the tunes deserve. Naturally, different songs stand out to different people, but I'm sure you'll enjoy at least a few of them if you like catchy rock music in any way, shape, or form. The great thing about this record is that there's a hook in every song (unlike The Offspring's tone-deaf self-titled debut where there are nearly no solos, no "whoas", and no call-and-respond choruses). After stupidly giving this gem of a CD away with other albums I had grown out of and hated hearing (die, Green Day, die), I finally heard Ixnay again for the first time since 1998. It's such a refreshing alternative to the crap that other bands (and sadly, The Offspring) are playing these days. These four guys from sunny So-Cal have severely lost their touch since Ixnay, and it is truly the last great thing the band did. Not one song on any album after Ixnay is nearly as good as what's found here. No, The Offspring didn't sell out, they wore out. But no matter how much more The Offspring continue to sink their own career, we'll still have songs like these to remember their once-greatness by:
1.) "Gone Away" (right on par with "Dirty Magic" in terms of beauty)
2.) "Amazed"
3.) "All I Want"
4.) "Change the World" (the drum beat was taken from their own tribal-sounding song "The Blurb" from 1990 and used here!)
