5.0 out of 5 stars C'est un superbe version de Lavoie...This is a great version of Lavoie, Dec 27 2011
This review is from: J'écoute la radio (Audio CD)

I'm not too familiar with Daniel Lavoie's musical history, but this disc is a great re-visioning of his earlier songs--both sensitive, and sensible. I recommend it for anyone who likes great Québécois pop songs. Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure pleasure, Dec 10 2011

This review is from: J'écoute la radio (Audio CD)
This is an amazing album. Not a compilation or a "best-of". Daniel Lavoie takes his own hits created over the course of his 40-year long carrier and ... takes another look. While staying behind his works, he interprets them from the position of his 2011 self, which naturally differs from the position of Daniel Lavoie-1974 or Daniel Lavoie-1984, etc., from both the musical and philosophical point of view. This is a work of a musician of an enormous talent and impeccable taste and a man who has learned a thing or two about life.

Musically the album's texture is beautiful and rich. Lavoie's voice, as rich and powerful and versatile as ever is complemented perfectly by the acoustic instruments, which include, among others, a metis violin and an Armenian doudouk, and cameos by various invited artists such as Maurane, Catherine Major, Robert Charlebois, Renaud et al. Philosophically the album is a sober and thoughtful look at life, its ups and downs and the connection between things small and universal.

In addition, the singer/composer offers a priceless gift of a brand new song, "J'écoute la radio", which besides being absolutely beautiful and immediately captivating, also brings a new dimension to the conversation about popular songs and their life on the airwaves and their role in people's lives.
