I read the two previous reviews and decided to take a chance. Ok but not great. It's compact and easy to use but has rather poor, flat sound quality with limited highs and lows. Could use a tone adjustment knob or a mini-equalizer. The previous comment about this cd player not playing cd's with blemishes is also correct. These are cd's which have no issues playing on other cd players in our house and car. Would have liked more for the price. Disappointing compared to previous JVC boomboxes I've had in the past. Don't waste your money.
Postscript: It's now about 9 months later and the CD player doesn't work anymore. Awful.

I should have read the reviews prior to purchasing. The product arrived and besides the poor sound quality (by design), the CD player worked for about 10 seconds, then just quit working. I made sure to keep the original packing, since this is the third JVC product that I have received broken (2 HD car radios from Crutchfield before this). This boombox is on its way back to Amazon for a refund. In the Crutchfield case, I ended up having to buy a different brand of car stereo, since every JVC product I received was broken. I am through with JVC after being a loyal customer for so many years. I can't believe the garbage quality of such a reputable brand.

I got this as a Christmas present for my boys the sound quality isn't very good at all and the cd player doesn't like to play disc that have any blemishes at all on them, even though my other cd players play them just fine. The good thing about this unit is that with the purchase of a cable you can connect an ipod or a mp3 player.
