This review is from: Jackass 3 2 Disc Blu Ray w/ 3D + Digital Copy [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
RIP Ryan Dunn, June 20 2011.***** What great value for the money. I got this package yesterday which included the following: * The 2D extended cut on blu-ray, 1080p/5.1 surround sound. Plus all the bonus features you have come to expect from these guys. * A 3D DVD, also the extended cut. Plus the theatrical cut as a digital copy. No special features. * 4 pair of 3D glasses, perfect for parties. My copy even came with a Jackass T-shirt! I watched the 3D first. Now, this is the old-style 3D with the two difference coloured lenses, not the "RealD" that you saw with Avatar. However, it wasn't too bad. I was expecting it to be crap, and it wasn't. There was a definite 3D effect which worked better in some scenes than others. In particular it worked best when there was movement on screen and the colours weren't too bright. The sketch with the bumblebee tetherball worked really well. The bees that were close to the screen were visibly "closer" to you, and the 5.1 surround gave you this audio illusion of the bees flying around you. Very cool. I did find that certain colours really flickered, like your eye couldn't decide what colour you were looking at. This was the worst technical aspect of the 3D. However, if you ignore it, it's a fun ride. And considering I wasn't expecting a 3D copy when I bought it, I was happy. Don't expect too much, and you will enjoy, especially in a party atmosphere. What of the movie itself? Well, I got this vibe that the guys (getting older but no wiser) really felt like they had to top their previous work and were determined to do so. Preston Lacey had some of his best moments. I enjoyed seeing Bam run through a hallway of tasers. Wee Man had some cute pranks as well as his usual painful stunts. Knoxville could have killed himself at least twice, in particular getting rammed by a buffalo. How he didn't get impaled, I don't know. Every good Jackass movie needs the following three types of moments: 1. The kind that makes you say "OUCH". 2. The kind that makes you laugh so hard you'll wet your pants. 3. The kind that is no nauseating that you have to stop yourself from throwing up. I am happy to report that Jackass 3D has all three. Anyway, I fully enjoyed Jackass 3D. For fans of these guys, this is an obvious must. I understand that a 3.5 DVD will be out later this year, an entirely new film made up of stuff that didn't make this one much like 2.5 was. Not that there aren't ample bonus features on this disc, because there are. You won't be short-changed. Pick it up. If you're a fan I guarantee that you will be happy. If you're not, this movie will not change your mind. 5 stars.

Pleasantly Surprised,

I didn't really spend a lot of time looking at what I was purchasing so I was surprised that the package came with:- The 1080p movie in both Theatrical and Director's Cut - Special features galore - a 3D copy that uses the 4 packaged Green-Magenta glasses. Why they chose Green-Magenta over the more typical Red-Cyan confuses me (since from what I've read, the Green-Magenta works better with 3D imagery on paper rather than on-screen motion). The 3D was okay. Oddly enough... the video was encoded for Cyan-Red glasses... but the 3D still sort of works. Worth watching in 3D for me since I never saw it in theatres in 3D. But it wasn't great. There are some definite ghosting, and colours like red fight for your eye's attention. It's the standard problems you'd expect with anaglyphic movies. Really strange that they'd package the wrong glasses to me though. Really, really strange. Hmm... Still, awesome. More than I expected
