A Band That Canada Can Be Proud Of...,
By
This review is from: Jackson Square (Audio CD)
There is no flaw when it comes to musical genius. When you hear it, you know...this is going to be epic. Jackson Square by Arkells is just that. The thought of something so smart, so politically correct and so relatable, would come in the format of a 12 track CD-Rom, sounds absurd. But the 5 young men from the Greater Toronto Area somehow managed to do the unthinkable. This CD will no doubt launch the career of what will be, the new band that Canada can actually be proud of. Arkells stray from the mundane and released an album that has a song for everyone. Oh, The Boss is Coming is currently taking over the airwaves; it is only a matter of time until "I'm Not The Sun" and "John Lennon" to follow suit. Do yourself a favour and purchase this CD, that way when they are heading all the massive tours and weeping in the rewards, you can say you were there from the beginning.

Another good Canadian band not heard of in the States,

I recently heard of Arkells on a trip to Canada. They were playing at a festival, and my sister loved them. After listening to them, I became a fan too. Pulling Punches, Oh The Boss Is Coming, and John Lennon are some of my favorites. Their new album is coming out in October, unfortunately since they are not 'popular' in the States, buying it anywhere near where we live will be next to impossible.

Clever, bouncy rock.,

Not a whole lot to say about this album, other than it's really good, especially for a debut. First albums often contain meandering intros and songs that go on for too long, but this one doesn't. The singles (Pulling Punches, The Ballad of Hugo Chavez) are fantastic, and almost get this album to 5 stars. Strong lyrics. Buy it.
