Book Description

July 12 2007
In a sensual region of France, a crime detective like no other...Chief Inspector Daniel Jacquot of the Cavaillon Regional Crime Squad is called to an artist's retreat in Provence, a luxury hill-top hotel where a young woman, it seems, has been murdered. There are bloodstains, but no body. Among the guests are those who have both means and motive, with personal secrets, hidden agendas and their own dangerous liaisons to conceal. Looming over them all is a celebrated and reclusive artist whose masterworks are priceless. When a summer storm isolates the hotel, and not one but two bodies are found, passions start to run high!

Review

"'O'Brien's evocation of the hot vibrant and seedy French port in which everyone seems to be a cop or a criminal, and sometimes both, is as masterly as Ian Rankin's depiction of Edinburgh' Daily Mail 'Well drawn, strongly flavoured setting in Marseilles... with grisly forensics offering vital clues as to the nature of the crime while skillfully concealing the whodunit... Rich, spicy and served up with unmistakeable relish' Literary Review" --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Excellent book! I discovered the author (Martin O'Brien) by accident and am starting to work my way through his Daniel Jacquot books. They are excellent murder mysteries with lots of colorful characters. The detective Jacquot is cool as a cucumber, very casual, but thorough, about his investigations, plus he is a very likeable main charater. If you like murder you'll like this book.
