Product Description

Review

"Nothing short of fantastic. I first fell in love with Jean's work when she wrote Colour and Light in Watercolour, I thought it was wonderful and still do. Yet with this new book, we've moved on ten steps ahead."  —www.YarnsAndFabrics.co.uk

"If nothing else, Jean's work is sure to inspire you to let go of some of your inhibitions. It simply dazzles on the page and makes you want to grab your brushes and get going straight away."  —Leisure Painter (July 2012)

I had to special order this book because I was so desperate to get a copy - I've been following Jean Haines' blog and knew her style fit the direction I want to go in my painting. This is a book I can read over and over and every artist can take away a lot just based on her encouraging and uplifting writing style.
Haines has such a "you can do it" attitude, and I find myself repeating some of her guidance as I paint. That reminder that as an artist, you are in control (even in a difficult medium like watercolour), and that you can paint anything you want is something I really needed to hear, even after seventeen years painting in watercolour.
I love the way Haines shows confidence in her viewers as well -she doesn't feel like she needs to paint every detail into her paintings, and those suggestions of detail and form are what make her watercolours so special, and something most watercolour artists aspire to.

An interesting approach to getting loose and unleashing the creativity in your watercolour painting. Doing the exercises and reproducing the workshops is worth the effort. Based on sound painting, composition and colur theory and techniques. One of the best I have found in this line.

While reading this book I've been inspired to work with watercolours instead of fighting them. The book encourages inspiration to try something different and exciting. Not saying it won't be intimidating, but without trying how can I learn and improve. My latest motto borrowed from Hazel Soan (The Essence of Watercolour) is 'Lay it and Leave it'....I think this book coincides well with that statement.

I recommend this book to anybody who is able to see beyond what the eye can see and is able to capture this energy and put it on a canevas.

Like most artists I have a massive amount of art books but this one "takes the cake" ... Jean actually shares her techniques which is something that most famous artists keep locked in their personal vault ... kudos to a lovely lady and a fresh and wonderful approach to beautiful works ....
