4.0 out of 5 stars Romantic Times Review, Jan 7 2004

Jeb Hunter's Bride (Harlequin Historicals, #412)
by Ana Seymour

It was Sean Gallivan's dream to join a wagon train and own land in California, but Sean's sudden death leaves his daughter Kerry and son Patrick to carry on his dream (though Kerry will have to disguise herself as a boy to escape the wagon train's rules against single females). With Kerry's hair sacrificed, Captain Jeb Hunter is fooled and allows the Gallivans to join the train.

Kerry and Patrick find welcome and friendship among their fellow emigrants. Only Jeb Hunter maintains his distance, sober and careful in his responsibility for the travelers, carrying the weight of his guilt for his wife's death in the gold fields. Jeb has vowed to avoid all emotional entanglements because he feels unworthy, but Kerry cannot control her feelings.

When a near drowning unmasks Kerry, Jeb is furious and ready to force Kerry and her young brother off the train, driven as much by the desire to avoid temptation as fear for their safety. Kerry and the women of the train have other ideas.

Warm and romantic, JEB HUNTER'S BRIDE matches the rigors of the trail with indomitable human spirit. SENSUAL

3.0 out of 5 stars forgettable, Dec 7 2008
By D. K. Stokes - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Jeb Hunter's bride (Paperback)
Nothing special, nothing horrible, just pretty forgettable.

The heroine disguises herself as a boy (I despise this standard historical romance plot!) so she and her brother can fulfill their recently deceased father's dream of going to California.

She's a bit TSTL (too stupid to live), in that she refuses to listen to advice.

There's a bit of a love triangle. The hero's got a guilt complex.

Then there's some minor drama with Indians and a near-mutiny, but all the conflicts are resolved way too easily.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable..., Aug 31 2005
By ThisThatNEverything "thisthatneverything" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Jeb Hunter's bride (Paperback)
This was a very good book. Kerry Gallivan & her younger brother are determined to reach California after their father's sudden death. They will do anything it takes to make it to California to fulfill her father's dream of starting a ranch. While traveling with a large train of people also going to California she falls for the train's Wagon Master Jeb Hunter. Jeb is all business at first & his only care is to make sure that he gets everyone to California safely. Jeb has a haunting past that won't leave his heart. He feels guilty over the death of his first wife & doesn't intend to open his heart again but is surprised to find that Kerry Gallivan is the woman for him. Very enjoyable. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A-1 story!, Feb 6 2005
By Nancy Compton - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Jeb Hunter's bride (Paperback)
Oregon Trail, 1800's Mid West

You'll cheer for Kerry and Patrick's pioneering spirit and their determination to achieve their dreams. Along the way, Kerry unexpectedly finds love with sometimes sullen, sometimes tender and always arousing, wagon master Jeb Hunter.

This tender story is quick and easy to read and most enjoyable!
