NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
Four presidents of the United States have been assassinated—in 1865, 1881, 1901, and 1963—each murder seemingly unrelated. But what if those presidents were all killed for the shocking same reason: a clause contained in the United States Constitution? This is the question faced by former Justice Department operative Cotton Malone. When President Danny Daniels is nearly killed in the heart of Manhattan, Malone risks his life to foil the murder—only to find himself at odds with the Commonwealth, a secret society of pirates first assembled during the American Revolution. Racing across the nation and taking to the high seas, Malone and Cassiopeia Vitt must break a secret cipher originally possessed by Thomas Jefferson, unravel a mystery concocted by Andrew Jackson, and unearth a document forged by the Founding Fathers themselves—one powerful enough to make the Commonwealth unstoppable.
Don’t miss Steve Berry’s short story “The Devil’s Gold” and a sneak peek of his new novel, The Columbus Affair, in the back of the book.

A SWASHBUCKLING PAGE TURNING ADVENTURE...,
By
This review is from: The Jefferson Key: A Novel (Hardcover)
This is an entertaining, page turning thriller, featuring recurring character Cotton Malone and his now main squeeze, Cassiopeia Vitt. Cotton, a former agent with the Justice Department, is on a weekend jaunt in New York City with Cassiopeia, when he receives a mysterious summons, purportedly from his former boss, Stephanie Nelle. When he responds, he is thrust into the maelstrom of a fight that has a historical basis and involves pirates and privateers.Mixing history with fiction, the author delivers an intricate, densely plotted thriller that will grip the reader's imagination. With facts torn from the fabric of United States history, the author weaves an elaborate tale that will delight those who enjoy conspiracy theories, as well as those who enjoy an action packed, fast paced story with intriguing characters. Presidential assassinations, secret ciphers and codes, and the United States Constitution all figure prominently and are well integrated in the plot. This is most definitely a plot driven book, and while the characters are interesting, there is little time spent on character development. Those readers who are history buffs, however, will most definitely enjoy the historical underpinning of the plot. Moreover, the writer's notes at the end of the book are worth mentioning, because in them the author details what is actually factual in the book. It is a very neat and interesting historical synopsis that only adds to one's enjoyment of the book.

This review is from: The Jefferson Key: A Novel (Hardcover)
I am not a fiction reader, and I especially laughed at one of the characters in this book, described as never reading a novel in his life, "why waste time on lies?". I'm not that harsh, but this book gets off to a great start, lots of great imagery and easy-to-understand characters. It starts with a gritty face-to-face foiled assassination attempt, that lead further to heated confrontations, and then mysterious notes and innocent people dodging bullets. Having been recommended this book by a work colleague, I'm looking forward to getting to some historical adventures too, but haven't got there yet. So this is the first novel I've read in maybe 5 or more years. Loving it so far!

Hang on to your Seat - It's a Roller Coaster,
This review is from: The Jefferson Key (with bonus short story The Devil's Gold): A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
Steve Berry is a favourite author and his recent book does not disappoint. After reading just a few electrifying paragraphs suddenly it would leap effortlessly to yet another scene creating an exhilarating roller coaster of a ride throughout the entire book. Quite remarkable as other books can confuse the reader by jumping back and forth. But not so with the Jefferson Key. It flowed along smoothly, and was a very exciting, suspenseful read. Highly recommended for those action packed readers.
