Very funny Dec 2 2014
By Learner - Published on Amazon.com
I'm Christian/Mormon not Jewish, but I enjoyed this movie a lot - in large part because of Jewish reviewers assuring me beforehand that this movie is just Jews making fun of Jewishness and not to take it too seriously. So I could just relax and watch it with my politically-correct-cringer switched off. I can't say I got everything but I think I got a lot of it. I can actually relate to some of it personally - Mormon culture is apparently similar in some ways to American Jewish culture, such as the idea of marrying into your own faith.

When you watch a movie it helps to understand who the intended viewer is. I think many of the negative reviewers are non-Jews who weren't able to put on their "Jewish goggles" enough to appreciate the humor; or maybe they just don't know the stereotypes enough to laugh at them.

The Jews I know are impressive people. It's also admirable to be able to laugh at yourself, as this movie obviously does.

The Southern-Christian stereotypes were also way over the top, and hilarious. The best part of the movie for me was when the guy goes to the Jewish singles mixer with a ball cap and NASCAR jacket.

There were too many private-parts jokes for my taste and a lot of swearing. But overall I enjoyed this, and hope I learned a little about Jewish culture, even if stereotyped for the comedy value.

If you are easily offended by "mature" content, proceed with caution. I normally would have found this movie offensive, but in this case I wasn't focusing on it. It should probably deserve an R rating.

Cute idea but poor character development Jan. 9 2014

The trailers showed the best parts of this movie. It was a cute premise but the characters were poorly developed.

Same formula Oct. 7 2013

The movie was fine. In the end it's just another romantic comedy, except this time the director uses jews and gentiles. Still the opposites attract formula. None of the characters are noteworthy.

mediocre Oct. 13 2013

Some of it was funny, some of it wasn't. I have mixed feelings. End of movie lost its comedic mojo.

The previews were better than the movie. Sept. 22 2013

The previews for this movie were so funny that I was willing to pay $7 to watch the whole thing. Yuck. It's vulgarity made it unwatchable.
