"Jillian, Jillian, Jillian Jiggs! It looks like your room has been lived in by pigs!" In the first of award-winning author and illustrator Phoebe Gilman's delicious Jillian Jiggs books, this absolutely irrepressible youngster tries again and again and again to set her mind to cleaning up her very messy room. She promises her mother that she'll clean up just as soon as she's through dressing up, but having fun keeps getting in the way. Whether Jillian and her friends are pretending to be pirates scouring the seven seas for treasure, monsters, witches, or fairies with dainty wings, there's always another game to be played or costume to be tried on. Gilman's bright watercolour illustrations perfectly capture the fun that Jillian and her friends have dressing up. Young readers are sure to be won over by Gilman's lively rhyming text and her equally playful pictures. And fans will want to check out The Wonderful Pigs of Jillian Jiggs, Jillian Jiggs to the Rescue, and Jillian Jiggs and the Secret Surprise. (Ages 3 to 6) --Jeffrey Canton --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

this is a great story, both to read out loud and to read alone. it's about a girl whose mother wants her to clean her room, but her friends come over and they end up playing instead. her mother tells her a few times to go clean her room and she seemingly goes to do it, but she takes her friends with her, as well as her baby sister, and they get distracted by their imaginations, so we get to see them pretending to be a bunch of different things. at the end though her mother puts her foot down and tells jillian to clean her room, so she tells her friends to come back when her room is neater.

the book rhymes, which is amazing for reading out loud, or for singular readings, the flow is nice. the illustrations are great too, the characters look like they're having fun. the way they're drawn conveys a lot of energy and excitement, and yet the drawings are simple... i guess they kind of remind me of children themselves, not a whole lot to them, but invest your time and you'll have more than your share of fun.

this whole series is great. i recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars JILLIAN JIGGS - WONDERFULLY CREATIVE Dec 6 2003
By Mindy
Format:Paperback
I have read this book over and over to myself and to the children in my childcare centre. I can honestly say, of all the books I've read and heard, this one would be in my top 10 list along with the rest of the Jillian Joggs series. Gillman writes a magical story that inspires children to be creative and imaginative. The illustrations are colourful and thought provoking. The story is full of surprises, gets kids excited and keeps their interest the whole way through!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best "Grow up on" Book Ever!! March 17 2004
Format:Paperback
I just love this book so much. My Grandma would read it to my sister, brother and I before we went to bed every night, when we stayed at her house. We would make her read it over and over and over again, in one night. We all three knew it by heart, my Grandma never even had to lok at the book. We especially remember the part, "Jillian Jillian Jillian Jiggs, it looks like your room has been lived in by pigs!" My grandparents recently moved to our town and my Grandma miss-placed the book during the move, so she can't find it. I had the idea of buying it for her and giving it to her on her birthday, which is coming up, and I can't believe that I was able to find it so easily!! It's such a wonderful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful book that will be read again and again June 15 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This book has a strong spunky girl as the main character who has imagination to spare...and a messy room to show for it! Young readers can follow Jillian, her little sister and friends through game after game of dress-up and adventure. Needless to say, Jillian's mom is a little distressed about the state of Jillian's room... I bought this book when my own daugher Jillian was an infant because of the names being the same. Little did I realize this book would become the story of my life with my efforts to keep the house clean all in vain because of my daughter's play acting. Our little sister tries to keep up just as the one in the book does, but is always just a step behind. We have given over 4 dozen of the paperback version of this book away as gifts, and everyone has loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Children's Book. Aug. 30 2003
By Willow - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
If I had one word to describe this book, it would definately be "AWESOME!" Jillian Jiggs is about a little girl who (like most kids) HATES to clean her room. But she always promises her mom that she *will* clean it, but then forgets when her friends come over. Jillian, her 2 friends, and her little sister play a bunch of games, and keep making her room messier. This book is really funny, I totally recommend buying it!
