Bleed American is the most recent album by Jimmy Eat World. It is eleven tracks long and with out a doubt, it's one of my favorite CD's to have been released in the past two years. It has a wide range of songs that illustrate the changes the band has underwent since their first album was released.
The band has matured a lot since their older album, Static Prevails, and even their more recent CD, Clarity. I believe Bleed American is a catchier album; the songs tend to be a lot rockier then the older emo-esc Jimmy Eat World tunes.
The CD opens on the title track "Bleed American." This song is absolutely explosive. The intensity with which it is played is amazing. It is really the only song that opens and finishes with such great power. "Praise Chorus" is my favorite song on the CD; it really is just a great song. With its catchiness and cleverness, it proves to be a perfect example of the level of perfection the band has reached. The album has plenty of other note-worthy songs such as "The Middle," "Sweetness," "Get it Faster," and "The Authority Song."
There are also a couple of songs that don't reflect the shift from old to new Jimmy Eat World. "Hear You Me," and "If you Don't Don't" are two songs that are old school Jimmy Eat World. So if that's your preference, don't think the album will fall short. It really has songs for all types of music fans. The final song on the CD is "My Sundown." In keeping with Clarity's end on a beautiful note, ("Goodbye Sky Harbor") My Sundown is just another really pretty song.
This CD turned me into a big Jimmy Eat World fan. Yes I was impressed with this band and their earlier work, but their latest album was what did it for me. Each song conforms to whatever mood I'm in. If you like music at all, pick this one up. If you don't like it, you should seriously look into not ever telling anyone how you feel about it, cause we all really dig this album. Just buy this CD and enjoy it. It's good for you.
