Product Description

From Amazon.com

OK, sitcom fans, let's gather to appreciate Joey for what it is: A pretty darn good showcase for the talents of star Matt LeBlanc and his fabulous supporting cast. If the show isn't Friends, so what? Few sitcoms are. LeBlanc and his costars are still funny, engaging, and sometimes downright hilarious. If Adriana had to leave The Sopranos, the silver lining is that actress Drea de Matteo resurfaces here as straight-outta-Queens whacky sister Gina. Also in the stellar cast is one of America's finest comedic actresses, Jennifer Coolidge, who plays the sharky Hollywood agent and straightwoman. Joey's relocation to L.A. has given his acting career a lot more "meat" for the writers to work with, and LeBlanc is still adorably clueless. (He never realized, for instance, in 20 years of trying out for stage productions of Romeo and Juliet, why his plaintive delivery of "Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?" never got him the part of... Romeo.) The boxed set of the first season includes all 24 episodes, and a lot of good writing and topnotch performances. And most importantly, the Joey we love: "Why do you have to ruin stuff like that? Huh? 'The curve ball is impossible.' 'Don't eat that, it's solid mold.' 'That's not a dog, it's a possum. Stop letting it lick your face.' Why?!!" --A.T. Hurley

Description

The still-single Friend strikes out on his own as Emmy nominee Matt LeBlanc reprises his "Friends" role as charming Joey Tribbiani in this spin-off that continues the beloved "Friends" tradition. Joey leaves New York for Hollywood in order to take his acting career to the next level. He also says goodbye to a time when his friends were his family and welcomes the chance to turn his family into his friends. After reuniting with his high-strung sister Gina (Drea de Matteo, "The Sopranos"), Joey moves in with Michael (Paulo Costanzo, "Road Trip"), his 20-year-old genius nephew, who unbelievably is literally a rocket scientist. However, what Joey lacks in book smarts he makes up for with people smarts - making him the best new friend his nephew could ask for.

4.0 out of 5 stars Plays better on DVD, Nov 18 2009

When this series first debut on NBC, being such a massive FRIENDS fan, I could not wait to see it. Unfortunately my anticipation outweighed the reality of how it played as a broadcast show. However after viewing the identical shows without commercial interruption, I realise the show does equal the comedic level achieved on Friends.
The supporting cast did provide a great array of characters for Matt Leblanc. When you view the shows in uninterrupted format, you appreciate the scripts and the arch of the storyline. This is one DVD series that really plays out much better than how you remember viewing it in its original format. If you already own the entire collection of Friends and would like more comedy in the same vein as FRIENDS than this series is a great option and actually worth purchasing!

5.0 out of 5 stars I looooooooove Joey! He's the best!, Jun 3 2006

I couldn't wait for this show to start on TV and was ready for lightning to strike me from the very first show. That didn't happen, but I'm loyal to this "dreamboat" actor who's such a handsome, lovable guy.

While waiting patiently for the show to "catch" me, I was preparing myself to lambast anyone who dared criticize it ... but that didn't happen, either, so I saved myself from punching someone's lights out. LOL.

Anyway, it soon picked up and I grew to like that adorable girl next door (even if she isn't Rachel), his sister and his nephew. His sister is a sex-bomb, very pretty in a sexy, earthy way. But for me, I think his agent is a blast. What a character! She's different, attractive, well-dressed, and very funny! She helps bring the chemistry of the show all together.

I couldn't wait to get this DVD so I could watch the shows in one sitting and see if it clicked into place sooner for me. It did!

At any rate, I looooooooooove this show, and I just adore Joey. He's way beyond cool. And, like many of the other reviewers, I'd like to see some of the FRIENDS cast make guest appearances from time to time. I'd also like to hear him chat on the phone with them occasionally. That would make it appear more real. As close as the cast of FRIENDS became, I'm certain the other five would be more than willing to support their beloved old friend who added so much to FRIENDS.

I hope JOEY goes on forever ... until Joey's old and gray. What a cute old guy he will be!

This DVD is a MUST BUY!
