Excellent, heart-felt performancesOct. 27 2012

I enjoyed this set of the Sonatas and Partitas very much. I have several others, among which I am most familiar with Milstein's DG set which I treasure. I was attracted to this set because it appeared somewhat obscure, and indeed it claims to be the first Icelandic recording of these pieces. Also, the violinist says her conductor-mentor's teacher was Adolph Busch, one of my favorite violinists of a previous generation, because of his honesty of presentation and personal commitment to the music itself. So I thought I would give this a try. I enjoyed it because I felt it communicated directly as an intense human document rather than just a virtuoso performance. I'm not expert enough to be able to analyze the playing but I thought it very engaging. The sound is good, occasionally appearing a bit forward but this is a small point. If you are a lover of this music or attracted to the somewhat obscure as I am, give it a try. I don't think you will be disappointed.
