Product Description

From Amazon.com

The late John Lennon's life and work are plainly visible in this stirring collection of short films and music videos, some very familiar while others, produced posthumously, will be new to many viewers. The set includes the classic "Imagine" clip, which begins with a haunting scene of John and Yoko walking through an early morning fog and concludes with Lennon's performance in an all-white room. More rare is a Top of the Pops live performance of "Instant Karma" and a wonderful film accompanying "Mind Games," in which a solo Lennon clowns around Central Park, thrilling passersby, playing with kids, and dancing. "Woman" is a montage of the last days and hours of Lennon's life, while "Watching the Wheels" is a compilation of home movie footage from the star's semi-reclusive Dakota years. Extras include a live "Slippin' and Slidin'," and a startling bit of "Julia" absentmindedly picked on guitar. --Tom Keogh

2.0 out of 5 stars What Ever Gets You Through Yoko, Jun 22 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: John Lennon: Lennon Legend - The Very Best of John Lennon (DVD)
It would get 5 stars were it a product of Apple™/EMI™ and put together by the remaining former Beatles and Sir George Martin. But it's really about Yoko making more money off of her dead husband's efforts.
Rhetorically speaking, what truly bothers me though, is the sudden interest in a music artist after he or she passes away. Look back, if you're old enough (I'm in my 50's), and be gut-ugly honest with yourself. Prior to Lennon's murder, Lennon's music was hardly of great interest to anyone at that time. No one cared. He was being a house husband and claiming "happiness and joy" of that fact. He hadn't really recorded anything of note (no pun) except during his so called year-long "lost weekend" when he recorded a few solos, did some work for Ringo and Harry Nilsson[sp?].
The rest of the time - if Ms. Mai Pang is to be believed - he was in drunken stupors and blackouts. He finally returns to NYC to be killed the following year. But he did cut two more LP's, the last of which was "Milk and Honey "Featuring Yoko" and you can tell as a layperson listener, but especially as a musician, the music was not finished and/or "polished" when it was released to a crowd clamouring for anything "LENNON". And voilá instant interest in John Lennon, the "tormented" musician and man, the ONE great BEATLE. Thank goodness anyway that those "inbetween" tracks from the last two LP's were not included in this one of many instruments to make a buck off of a deceased man's back.
John Lennon was good, he was absolutely brilliant in many cases, but this bit of marketing you can safely pass on (unless maybe you're a collector). The "Greatest Hits" album by John is very good, better than "Legend" and a better buy. You can get all the home movies and news reels from "Imagine: John Lennon". Make your own QuickTime®™ version of "Legend" and come out ahead.

This review is from: John Lennon: Lennon Legend - The Very Best of John Lennon (DVD)
I am mostly peeved and peevish at the guy who thought this dvd was all Yoko and a scam. I say to that goat, "yer bloody wrong."
I just got the dvd from Amazon.com and I am extremely pleased. It brought tears to my eyes a few times. I had a few crates of ale and decided to put it in the machine and see what's what and man, this is an event! God bless Yoko for having the balls to open up those archives and give the world a little gift. I love it! I won't wake up tomorrow and think differently. What a trip! I love this dvd and if you are a Lennon fan, you otter buy it. If you don't, you're a dolt. Sorry to be mean. I am so amazed at this dvd. Animations coming to life. All this stuff. It's got me on sensory overload. What a good thing, after a long and pointless week digging up dandilions and waiting for the foodstamps. It ain't all about Yoko. It's about love. Their love. Their love, after all, spawned the songs, most of them. So why not show Yoko during the song? That other guy, whomever he was and wherever he was, stop your complaining. Yoko gave you a gift and you're looking at a gift horse in the mouth.

3.0 out of 5 stars Where is Apple Corps????, Feb 29 2004
This review is from: John Lennon: Lennon Legend - The Very Best of John Lennon (DVD)
What happened to the original "Give Peace A Chance" video? It's on the original Lennon Collection comp as a live cut.... It's overdubbed here! I think there is too much emphasis placed on his later stuff - what happened to the Sometime in NYC album? Or the Plastic Ono Band LP? Or the original "Happy Xmas" video??
