This is a good Christmas CD but considering Frank and Gordon Jenkins are the artists, it is merely good - not a classic.
The songs are all top notch and the arrangements on the secular (non-religious)tunes are good too.
However, the arrangments on the sacred (Christian/religious) songs lack any life and have no rhytmn section. They simply sound too serious and a bit somber when you them compare for example to Ray Conniff's Xmas albums - even the slower songs have bass, drums, guitar and even piano at times. It tightens them up considerably and avoids dragging them out.
Some may feel that rhytmn sections may not be appropriate for old hymns...I don't agree with that maxim.
For Sinatra fans, this is a great Christmas album; however, for anyone else this CD does not stand out too much from the overcrowded field of Xmas music.
Personally, I prefer the REPRISE Christmas album. It is in STEREO, has more life and also better arrangements overall.
